I’m probably giving you info you already know about, but I have only just seen pamphlet about new ways of charging for Dartford crossing, so thought I had better let you know. It is aimed at easing the congestion at the gates – no stopping.
You cannot pay at the gates now. You pay before your journey, or by midnight the following day.

Oh sorry! Just had a peep myself, Pamphlet said ‘From October 2014’, but on-line says ‘November 2014’! Just keep looking on-line!
