Mike Barry’s Uptown Gang, Friday 28th April 2019

It’s MIKE BARRY’S UPTOWN GANG on Friday, 28th April 2019, here at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent),  Trumpeter MIKE will be joined by TONY TEAL on reeds, ‘WHISPERING’ MIKE HOLT on trombone & vocals, JOHN STEWART on banjo & guitar, KEITH DONALD on double bass and BRIAN STAPLEY on drums.   I must mention I actually cut-n-pasted most of the following info about a year ago’s weather, I was apologising then to you all we had cancelling the previous week, having only had to do so twice in about 37years (and always due to extreme bad weather – regarding being snowed out of the club!).  I also said it was quite weird that we had the hottest (probably the longest) summer ever recorded too!  Now here we are a whole year later and to mention how we have had severe weather in this Feb, nearly needing to cancel again due to snow.  Now in recent weeks (and still only in April) isn’t it great we’re enjoying extremely beautiful and hot weather.  Anyway, here comes Mike and the boys – ready to give us a ding-dong again.  I just love this lot’s smiling faces – as well as their choice of tunes.   My apologies, but due to some personal time consuming events – so sorry but photos will have to wait a little longer please, but one day! Your hosts, Diane and Keith

The Band leader of MAHOGANY HALL STOMPERS is BRIAN GILES.  Brian, who plays cornet, will be back with us Friday 19th April 2019 at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent).  He has booked TIM HUSKISSON (playing clarinet & alto sax), plus trombonist COLIN GRAHAM, with singer & banjoist ‘SOUTHEND BOB’ ALBUTT.   The band’s regular drummer, Chris Marchant has found it necessary to give up drumming hopefully not permanently (we wish him and his wife our best wishes and thanks).  Meanwhile, please will you give a great Farnborough welcome to their new permanent drummer, BARRY CRICKMORE, who is to play here for the first time.  Also, whilst Roger Curphey is still under the weather, Brian has been booking ALAN MORGAN to play double bass with the band.  Sorry to be repetitive, but we do expect a great session.  With such a lot of lovely weather recently, you just have-to come out and spend an evening with us – your weekly dose of jazz at Farnborough.  Happy Easter everyone and hey, just because I said no Easter eggs in the next raffle, it’s not true, I lied ha ha – we just cannot let you go without a once-a-year treat – nothing like an Easter egg, is there – aye?  You’ll just have to do an extra lot of dancing tonight in preparation for those lovely luxuriously smooth, magnificent and mouth-watering, self-spoiling, fabulously appetising, delicious, gorgeous sumptuously fresh chocolate Easter eggs – oh hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm wow, my tongue is dribbling.  See you tonight at 8.00pm (till 11.00pm).  Yes, of course we have a bar! Your hosts Diane and Keith

George ‘Kid’ Tidiman’s All Stars. Friday, 12th April 2019

It’s GEORGE ‘KID’ TIDIMAN’S ALL STARS playing for us this Friday, 12th April 2019, here at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB.  Did I hear you call out yippee, in delight?  Of course, because our ‘Kid’, GEORGE has DENNY ISLETT on trumpet, TIM HUSKISSON on clarinet &sax, JOHN SIRET on double bass, ‘SOUTHEND BOB’ ALBUTT on banjo &vocals and BILL on drums.  George usually has a great big smile on his face and of course the reason is because he knows these guys with him, will most definitely help him to bring some great big smiles to your faces too.  The music they play for you, is so brilliant, that I know you will be going away on a high.  For you to disprove me of this fact, is impossible, so see you Fridays, guys and dolls.
