Mardi Gras Jazzband, 1st March 2019

We have the MARDI GRAS JAZZBAND here for you tonight, Friday 1st March 2019 at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent).  The last time Mardi Gras JC were here, it was our first night of the year.  It spelt disaster as we had the first heavy snow and we were unsure if we should cancel.  But what a brilliant evening for those of you who braved the elements and turned up to listen, enjoyed a dance and had a pint or three.  Rob had been in London all day, attending a big British Lion’s rugby do, so he arrived at our club with huge intentions to give us a huge party and that he did.  He played brilliantly and his lovely band joined him in the same spirit.  So now I can tell you to turn up tonight, because they just must match that evening, hmmm.  The musicians with trombone player and band leader, ROB PEARCE, will be LEIGH HENSON on trumpet & flugelhorn, plus of course JOHN ELLMER on his many reeds. In the engine will be JOHN STEWART on banjo & guitar, PETE CLANCY on bass and PAUL BAKER on drums.  Say, if you are Welsh, what better reason but to come out for the evening – It is St. David’s Day.  Join your hosts, Diane and Keith

Granties Dixie Six, 22nd February 2019

This week, it’s GRANTIES DIXIE SIX, playing here again at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent), Friday 22nd February 2019.  The band made its debut entrance two weeks ago, 8th February 2019 and it was such a success with most of our audience – it was full on brilliant jazz.  We’d put different top guys together to play, making a wonderful relaxed band – relaxed because, although they hadn’t played together before, being all top pros, they were not worried.  It is lovely to witness something new.  These guys play all over the place in different bands (all having played here too).  On Friday, it will be the same line-up.  PETE RUDEFORTH is on trumpet again, so get down here for Friday, because he is such a busy guy, we can only enjoy him occasionally.  Then, although the rest of them are busy ‘big’ bees too, we have got them a little more often.  So, for now, it’s the same line-up, with JOHN LEE on reeds, BOB DWYER on trombone & vocals, plus TIM HUSKISSON on piano, ROGER CURPHEY on double bass and of course, KEITH GRANT on drums.  I did sing a couple of songs and managed to get through my nervous shakes, ha – and yes will do so again, but you can always pop out at that moment!  Again, if you haven’t been before, now’s the time to come.  Keep the year going with some brilliant jazz.  As I always say, we have a lovely friendly atmosphere with dancing, plus fun banter between audience and bands.  The bar is a Shepherd Neame one (club prices) and we have plenty of free off-road carparking space.  All this for just a £10 entrance. Come on, what are you waiting for.  See you tonight (from 8:00pm till 11:00pm).  (yes, I know, I’ve cut-n-pasted this last bit – shame on me!).  Also – sorry have worked on photos for hours – new system and is driving me crazy, so will try to sort out another day!  Your hosts, Diane and Keith

Golden Eagle Jazz Band, Friday 15th February 2019

We’re pleased to tell you, it’s the GOLDEN EAGLE JAZZ BAND joining us again at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent) on Friday 15th February 2019.    KEVIN SCOTT plays tenor banjo and sings.   He is such a happy soul, leading this band, playing strongly, but with such a warm sense of feeling (oh – and an infectious laugh).  Of course, the rest of the band naturally play in the same way.  TONY KARAVIS plays trumpet, ALAN CRESSWELL plays reeds and ROY STOKES plays trombone (and another singer).  The rest of the engine are CHRIS THOMPSON playing double bass and MALC MURPHEY on drums.  The tunes they play are chosen with careful thought, choosing ones to dance to, or just to listen to.  Kevin does tell jokes to keep the entertainment light (sometimes corny getting an audience happilly jeering , so always fun).  There you go, you must come and check me out – that I am not exaggerating.  So be there for an 8:00pm start, joining your hosts, Keith and Diane

FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB IS OPENING TONIGHT 1ST FEBRUARY 2019 WITH MARDI GRAS JAZZBAND

IT IS RAINING AND WARMER HERE, SO WE ARE GOING AHEAD WITH TONIGHT 1ST FEBRUARY.  I’ll tell you though, we have ummed and ahhed as to if we should cancel or not.

Yippee, I am ready, fun provided by MARDI GRAS JAZZBAND.
Trombone player and band leader ROB PEARCE will have with him LEIGH HENSON on trumpet, JOHN ELLMER on his many reeds, JOHN STEWART on banjo & guitar, STEVE SMITH on bass and DOMINIC COLES on drums.

I cannot believe it though!  We closed for the whole of January and of course, the weather was fine.  But our first day back and ice & snow!  Well, what else aye!  Anyway, rain is here and temperature is up. Many of you realise that if we ever need to cancel, it is a huge job to reach the many unknown numbers of you who may turn up, especially those not on computers.  During which time, the weather can change and warm up.  But we have to make the decision earlier in the day, to give time to reach you all.  Once we decide to cancel and start calling people, there is no going back.  The main reason for any cancellation is always due to the car park having no movement during the day, so snow or ice doesnt disappear. However, the nursery school is open today, so there has bee plenty of cars in the car park.  So let’s be seeing you all – get there!
