Our Easter celebration took place this GOOD FRIDAY, 14th<\/sup> APRIL 2017 <\/strong><\/span>(happy birthday to\u00a0HM Queen Elizabeth 2nd).\u00a0 \u00a0BOB DWYER\u2019S BIX & PIECES<\/strong> <\/span>jazz band\u00a0 made sure\u00a0we enjoyed the start of our holiday here at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 Trombonist &vocalist BOB\u2019s<\/strong><\/span> phone was temporarily out of order, so was not sure of who was to be playing, however I actually got it wrong – he did in fact have\u00a0CHEZ CHESTERMAN\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>on trumpet, with JOHN\u00a0ELLMER <\/strong><\/span>on clarinet & tenor sax, HUGH CROZIER<\/strong> <\/span>on piano &vocals,\u00a0including\u00a0JOHN BAYNE<\/strong> <\/span>on double bass &bass sax, DAVE PRICE<\/strong> <\/span>on banjo &guitar and GRAHAM CAULICOTTE<\/strong> <\/span>on drums.\u00a0 I asked if you could all have a quick look here on Friday afternoon and hopefully, I would have been able to confirm these guys would be playing for you, but sorry, I didn’t have time to check it out.\u00a0 I can tell you we\u00a0all enjoyed good dancing, good raffle prizes (all who came had a chance of winning Easter Eggs and some booze too).\u00a0 I also have to apologise for being unable to keep up with how these recent Fridays have been and what tunes were played, but have house renovations taking place and have little spare time.\u00a0Hopefully I\u00a0might\u00a0get back to\u00a0it all again.<\/p>\n

Now,\u00a0It\u00a0is with much regret, I have to tell you that Michael & Silvia\u00a0\u00a0Murtagh have lost their own Sunday\u00a0jazz club they have spent much energy and love\u00a0running at Welling.\u00a0\u00a0They have been\u00a0running jazz for far\u00a0too many years than\u00a0I can remember.\u00a0 So Keith and I thank them and,\u00a0wish them\u00a0luck in whatever they care to disperse their energies into –\u00a0\u00a0Michael is still editor for the Just Jazz\u00a0Magazine, which obviously takes a lot of work for them both too.<\/p>\n

Also, I expect by now, most of you will have heard of the death of dear Ken Simms, trumpet player.\u00a0 Ken last played for us\u00a0here at Farnborough\u00a0with George ‘Kid’ Tidiman’s All\u00a0Stars\u00a0\u00a0–\u00a0as you can see by\u00a0this photo, on\u00a022nd July 2016.\u00a0 We are proud to have known\u00a0Ken -truly a star-\u00a0for many years. Keith had played with him on many occasions in the past.\u00a0 Our sympathy goes out to his family.<\/p>\n
