{"id":425,"date":"2014-02-04T20:59:18","date_gmt":"2014-02-04T20:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=425"},"modified":"2016-07-10T11:04:10","modified_gmt":"2016-07-10T11:04:10","slug":"les-hanscombes-tailgate-jazz-band-31012014-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=425","title":{"rendered":"Les Hanscombe\u2019s Tailgate Jazz Band, 31\/01\/2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">LES HANSCOMBE\u2019S TAILGATE JAZZ BAND <\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">made their second appearance on <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">31<sup>st<\/sup> January 2014<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> at<\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> Farnborough Jazz Club<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> (Kent).\u00a0 Unfortunately, my computer was \u2018down\u2019 when they first visited us on 28<\/span><sup>th<\/sup><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> June 2013, but Keith and I can recall they were a wonderful traditional jazz band.\u00a0 The musicians who played this time with leader and trombonist <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">LES<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">, were <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">BRIAN GILES<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> on trumpet, <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">BRIAN\u00a0<\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">HART<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> on reeds, <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">BRIAN STAPELY<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> on drums (yep, three Brian\u2019s!), <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">GERRY HOSKINS<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> on double bass, plus <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">OLLIE BENSON<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> on banjo &amp; guitar. After the previous week, with a lot of you missing for one reason, or another, last week I asked you to please return to the fold, so we could show Les and band a warm welcome back.\u00a0 I am so sorry I asked you, because (although still lean on the ground), many of you did push yourselves to come. \u00a0The reason for having to push yourselves, was no reflection on the band, it was due to more dreadful weather conditions endured to get here.\u00a0 Yes, tons more rain.\u00a0 The band made it through the flooding, but a lot of you were once again missing.\u00a0 Perfectly understandable, but to everyone who made an effort, we thank you so much for giving the band a warm welcome back. \u00a0\u00a0Gordon, one of our main dancers, turned up, although still out of commission for dancing, so some of our ladies did asked nicely for a dance from some of you shy guys, which did make a change aye?\u00a0 No seriously, we have plenty of fun, with or without dancing. \u00a0\u00a0\u2018Back Home Again in Indiana\u2019 was the first number noted down , then\u00a0 Les sang the next number called \u2018Look Down that Lonesome Road\u2019, with Brian H playing tenor sax.\u00a0 I wrote \u2018really lovely number\u2019 to next one, called \u2018Mama\u2019s Gone, Goodbye\u2019.\u00a0 It has a lovely 1920ish happy beat, so plenty of dancing. Ollie brought out the guitar and Brian S played a lovely drum solo to \u2018On Treasure Island\u2019.\u00a0 This number was a \u2018No.1 hit\u2019 for Tommy Dorsey, definitely one for dancing too. The band was in a happy mood with their choice of numbers.\u00a0 They were all very melodic.\u00a0 The next one was \u2018You Came out of Nowhere\u2019, with Brian G on trumpet, using a mute on and off throughout the number and Brian H playing tenor sax, wonderful.\u00a0 Next number Les sang to and Brian H chose to play clarinet with \u2018All God\u2019s Chillun Got Rhythm\u2019, another good dancing number.\u00a0 Then a lovely start with \u2018engine\u2019 only to \u2018The World is Waiting for Sunrise\u2019 (being Brian S giving great drum solo, plus Gerry and Ollie) and then \u2018Bei Mir Bist Du Shon\u2019 followed.\u00a0 I wrote \u2018great drums, great guitar, great trombone, oh what the heck, great all!\u2019 \u00a0My last number written down was \u2018Creole Love Call\u2019 I wrote \u2018yeah\u2019.\u00a0 What a simply lovely feeling the band left us with. \u00a0Les&#8217;s Band will return on 10th October 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Please keep us \u2018Live\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diane and Keith<\/p>\n<h6>\u2018All God\u2019s Chillun Got Rhythm\u2019 \u2013 Walter Jurmann, Gus Kahn &amp; Bronislau Kaper (1937)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018Back Home Again in Indiana\u2019 \u2013 Ballard MacDonald &amp; James F.
