{"id":3752,"date":"2016-07-25T12:41:25","date_gmt":"2016-07-25T12:41:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=3752"},"modified":"2016-08-04T11:39:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T11:39:18","slug":"george-tidimans-all-stars-22nd-july-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=3752","title":{"rendered":"George Tidiman&#8217;s All Stars, 22nd July 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We really did have a super evening with <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>GEORGE \u2018KID\u2019 TIDIMAN\u2019S ALL STARS<\/strong><\/span>!\u00a0 They were here on <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Friday, 22nd July 2016<\/span> <\/strong>at our <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">.\u00a0<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>GEORGE (our \u2018Kid\u2019)<\/strong> <\/span>had planned to have brilliant trumpeter,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> <strong>DENNY ILETT <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with him, but Denny had an unexpected prior family engagement.\u00a0 However, we had <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">KEN SIMMS <\/span><\/strong>take his place and what a treat \u2013 as we hadn\u2019t seen him here for several years.\u00a0 Joining them, were <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span>superb clarinettist, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>TIM HUSKISSON<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/span>I said last time they were here, what a front line!\u00a0 Well it still was with Ken.\u00a0 The \u2018engine boys\u2019\u00a0were banjoist <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>\u2018SOUTHEND BOB\u2019 ALLBUT\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(<\/span><\/span>the man with the &#8216;voice&#8217;), plus double bassist, \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>JOHN SIRETT<\/strong> <\/span>and that drumming man, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>BILL FINCH<\/strong><\/span><strong>. \u00a0<\/strong>Unfortunately Mike Witt had problems with his photos, but came up with this wonderful one of George.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3806\" style=\"width: 402px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/George-Tidiman-22july2016-2479.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3806\" class=\" wp-image-3806\" src=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/George-Tidiman-22july2016-2479-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"How about this photo of our beaming 'Kid', George Tidiman on trombone, seen here with Ken Simms on trumpet. Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0George sang \u2018Satchmo\u2019 style just brilliantly, the\u00a0the first tune I\u2019ll\u00a0mention, being <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018Basin Street Blues\u2019<\/em><\/span>. What a wonderful \u2018full on\u2019 effort made by everyone.\u00a0 Well, it is a cracking number, don\u2019t you think?\u00a0 Then an equally brilliant one followed, <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u2018Hello Central, Give Me Dr Jazz\u2019<\/span>.<\/em>\u00a0 Bob sang this time and you know I just love the deep classic sounds coming out of his vocal cords.\u00a0 I noted George\u2019s solo was superb, with him holding a note for a long time and not just once either!\u00a0 They then announced the next number as being<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <em>\u2018Mabel\u2019s Dream\u2019<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 I recall Ken saying \u2018We\u2019re going to do the nightmare version\u2019 \u2013 ha.\u00a0 Then <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018Chattanooga Stomp\u2019<\/em><\/span>? I must have been dancing to it, because I hadn\u2019t written any notes and I do recall I enjoyed it.\u00a0 It was an extremely hot evening and the musicians had not let up!\u00a0 So it was lovely they chose to play this following one, being <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018Tishomingo Blues\u2019<\/em><\/span>, everyone got up to dance (with it being a nice slow number for everyone to be able to dance, without feeling they might collapse (phew).\u00a0 Then <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018Cake Walkin\u2019 Babies\u2019<\/em> <\/span>was another number.\u00a0 There were some lovely solos by everyone.\u00a0 Bob\u2019s next rendition was of<em> \u2018<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Bird With the Funny Names\u2019<\/span><\/em>, which he did for his solo performance (I think this is \u2018The 57th Snowflake\u2019, being the Brownies&#8217; camp song).\u00a0 What a funny man Bob is \u2013 and clever too.\u00a0 How does he remember all the words!\u00a0 What\u2019s more, how does he find all these obscure numbers to play?\u00a0 Then what about the next, <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u2018I\u2019ll Be Glad When You\u2019re Dead, You Rascal You\u2019<\/span>?<\/em> It was another one that George sang \u2018Louis\u2019 style and can he do it wonderfully \u2013 and with everyone playing fabulous solos again.\u00a0 We had a gorgeous bit of playing from both Ken and Tim with <em>\u2018<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Yama Yama Blues\u2019<\/span><\/em> and I think it could possibly be the first time this number has been played here (although Mike Barry\u2019s Uptown Gang played \u2018The Yama, Yama Man\u2019 for us back on 28 November 2014 &#8211; different song &#8211;\u00a0ha)\u00a0 For a hot night, they \u2018went out\u2019 on a hot number <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018Panama (Rag)\u2019<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 How do these musicians do it?\u00a0 Oh what an exciting ending.\u00a0 So many smiles from everyone leaving the club \u2026 and being on a high myself, I didn\u2019t get to sleep till 4:00 in the morning hmmmmmm!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your hosts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Diane and Keith<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><em>\u2018Basin Street Blues\u2019 \u2013 Spencer Williams (1926)<\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em>\u2018Cake Walkin\u2019 Babies\u2019 \u2013 (m) <\/em>Chris Smith &amp;
