GOLDEN EAGLE JAZZ BAND<\/strong> <\/span>started our New Year off with some great traditional jazz here at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/strong><\/span> and did we have fun.\u00a0 Well, they are back to do the same\u00a0\u00a0on Friday, 17th<\/sup> June 2016<\/strong><\/span>.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The band had the same line-up, namely band leader KEVIN\u00a0SCOTT\u00a0<\/strong> <\/b><\/span>(tenor banjo), plus MIKE SCROXTON<\/strong> <\/span>on trumpet, ALAN CRESSWELL<\/strong> <\/span>on clarinet, ROY STOKES<\/strong><\/span> on trombone & vocals, MIKE BROAD<\/strong> <\/span>on double bass and PETE JACKMAN<\/strong> <\/span>on drums.<\/p>\n

I always say it is good to begin the evening with a good swinging number to really put the audience in a happy mood.\u00a0 Well they certainly gave a great start, obliging me with \u2018Canal Street Blues\u2019<\/em> and then followed up with \u2018The Royal Telephone\u2019<\/em> – remember Burl Ives? \u2013 lovely ol\u2019 voice.\u00a0 Kevin\u2019s lot play a much more jazzed up version, of course.<\/p>\n

\"Jack<\/a>

Jack Lawrence (b. April 7, 1912 \u2013 d. March 16, 2009) was an American songwriter. He was inducted into\u00a0\u00a0 the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Their third number was another one of my old favourite tunes, \u2018Ciriciribin\u2019,<\/em> (I\u2019ve added the composer\u2019s photo!).\u00a0 Kevin announced it as being a lovely old romantic tune. \u00a0Up next, we enjoyed our line dance (again only five of us \u2013 well one more than last week, ha \u2013 we\u2019ll probably have a few back next week from hols!).\u00a0 The number was \u2018There\u2019s Yes,! Yes! In Your Eyes\u2019.\u00a0 <\/em>Well, at least we had the rest of the dancers up dancing to my next number to mention – \u2018The Glory Of Love\u2019<\/em>, (remember lovely Jimmy \u2018Snozzle\u2019 Durante?).<\/p>\n

Then a great trad\u2019 dancing number came in the shape of \u2018Milenurg Joys\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Oh yes, they showed they just loved playing it too \u2013 what a beat.\u00a0 Marvelous trombone playing\u00a0by Roy with Alan (always wonderful clarinet tones.\u00a0 \u00a0I would like to make particular\u00a0mention to, Mike (S) performing brilliantly on trumpet to their next tune – \u2018My Old Kentucky Home\u2019.<\/em> \u00a0Another brilliant situation followed (I must mention) and that is about the boys playing their next number to a packed dance floor, with all the dancers singing at the top of their voices.\u00a0 The tune was \u2018Over In The Glory Land\u2019<\/em> \u2013 certainly a lot of fun.\u00a0 My next choice to mention, being a Latin American flavor, is \u2018Jambala\u2019<\/em> and was sung by Kevin, you can tell I love the lively numbers.<\/p>\n

How about \u2018Just A Closer Walk With Thee\u2019?\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0It was\u00a0performed as a great duo only by Mike (B) and Pete (double bass and drums) – wonderful, very enjoyable.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll close my newsletter and mention \u2018Walking With The King\u2019,<\/em> with Kevin singing, he does sing so well.\u00a0 The band’s booking \u00a0had been specially\u00a0requested for Judy\u2019s 70th birthday and we all enjoyed it with her too.\u00a0 Thank you boys for giving her and us a good time.\u00a0 They will be back 25th November.<\/p>\n
