DAVE RANCE\u2019S ROCKIN\u2019 CHAIR BAND<\/span> <\/strong>was our \u2018LIVE\u2019 entertainment at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>on Friday, 10th June 2016 8:00pm<\/strong><\/span>. \u00a0Band leader, DAVE RANCE<\/span> <\/b>played trumpet and sang, with DEREK SCOFIELD<\/strong><\/span>, who also sang.\u00a0 DEREK<\/strong> <\/span>also played clarinet, saxophone, tenor and bass saxes, plus piccolo, as well as a little bit of tap dancing (and<\/u> <\/strong>he is in his mid-80\u2019s too \u2013 what a star). GRAHAM WISEMAN<\/strong> <\/span>was their trombonist (yes, another\u00a0vocalist) HENRY HARRISON<\/b> <\/strong><\/span>played drums, with MIKE BREWERTON<\/span> <\/strong>on double bass and DOUG PARRY<\/strong> <\/span>on banjo and guitar.<\/p>\n

Such a lot of fun, but with not too many people, although those who were there, enjoyed it. They began the evening with one of Louis Armstrong\u2019s numbers \u2013 \u2018Too Busy\u2019<\/em>, a lovely happy tune. It was followed on with \u2018No-body\u2019s Sweetheart Now\u2019<\/em>. Derek sang from the middle of the dance floor \u2013 a lovely act. Then they all played \u2018Creole Bells\u2019<\/em> wonderfully \u2013 Doug played a lovely solo on banjo.<\/p>\n

Dave took to the \u2018mike\u2019 next, singing \u2018If I Had A Talking Picture Of You\u2019<\/em>, with Henry on drums \u2026 standing whilst playing \u2026 I think quite unique with trad\u2019 jazz\u00a0bands. \u00a0(Dave used a mute on trumpet). \u00a0He then played again some wonderful trumpet to Louis\u2019 \u2018When It\u2019s Sleepy Time Down South\u2019,<\/em> a lovely number.<\/em><\/p>\n

Graham sang (great too)\u00a0next with \u2018Irish Black Bottom\u2019, echoed by Dave, which\u00a0lured our-line dancers onto the floor. We had so many away, so it was begun by two of our gents, but they were soon joined by two of us females! Yes, just four of us!!!!!!!! But we carried on uninhibited \u2013 ha. This was all followed by Dave\u2019s featuring with that Bix Beiderbeck tune, \u2018Davenprt Blues\u2019<\/em>. Well done Dave, super-duper trumpet. Must mention a fabulous drum solo from Henry with \u2018Moose March\u2019. <\/em><\/p>\n

Stumbling\u2019<\/i> was a feature for Derek and, once again, did he \u2018perform\u2019<\/strong>. He played clarinet and then stepped out into the middle of the floor, singing, whilst tap dancing. Oh what a lovely man, with so much talent. There were more songs, but Derek was featured again, this time on sax with \u2019Singing The Blues\u2019<\/em>, some great guitar playing from Doug and the dance floor was in full use.<\/p>\n

Their last number was sung by Dave, being \u2018Down By The Riverside\u2019. <\/em> Henry performed a great drum solo again, with Derek playing tenor, clarinet and<\/u><\/strong> piccolo!\u00a0\u00a0 What a way to end an evening. Thank you everyone, our audience remarked how wonderful you all played.<\/p>\n
