{"id":35,"date":"2013-09-17T13:05:53","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T13:05:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=35"},"modified":"2015-01-09T01:46:47","modified_gmt":"2015-01-09T01:46:47","slug":"dave-hewitts-condonians-friday-20th-september-2013-sarah-spencers-transatlantic-band-friday-13th-september-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=35","title":{"rendered":"Sara Spencer\u2019s Transatlantic Jazz Band, 13\/09\/2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">SARAH SPENCER\u2019S TRANSATLANTIC JAZZ BAND<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> made their annual appearance at Farnborough on <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Friday 13<sup>th<\/sup> September 2013.<\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0SARAH <\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">is a brilliant New Orleans tenor sax player, who must have a huge pair of lungs.\u00a0 What a strong performance she gives.\u00a0 The band are more than her friends, they are an extension of her \u2018family\u2019, so it is a joy to see them all perform together.\u00a0 Sarah moved to live in America some 15years ago.\u00a0 Since 2009, she has made an appearance at Farnborough during her <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">annual tour<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> back home.\u00a0 As I said last week, she has a wonderful dynamic personality and her playing certainly depicts this.\u00a0 Since the first time Sarah appeared with us back in \u2018Badgers Mount Jazz Club\u2019 days, she has played at The Purcell Rooms in London\u2019s Festival Halls, plus world-wide festivals and of course, USA.\u00a0 <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">STEVE GRAHAM<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> was on trumpet (who was with <strong>\u2018The Panama Jazz Kings\u2019<\/strong>), <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">GEOFF COLE<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> was on trombone (who was with <strong>Ken Colyer\u2019s Band<\/strong> and his own <strong>Red Hot Five Band<\/strong>), <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">ANNIE HAWKINS <\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">was on double bass (was a founder member with <strong>Max Collie\u2019s Rhythm Aces, also with Ken Colyer and Sammy Rimington Bands<\/strong>), <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">ANDY MAYNARD<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> on banjo (was with <strong>New Orleans Echoes<\/strong>) and <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">CHRIS MARCHANT<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> on drums (was with <strong>Frog Island Jazz Band<\/strong>).\u00a0 The band, I know, thoroughly enjoyed themselves, playing some great number.\u00a0 I think it was Steve\u2019s first appearance here at Farnborough.\u00a0 His trumpet playing was beautiful and a delight to welcome. The first number I noted was \u2018Mobile Stomp\u2019, to which I remarked \u2018Really full on and hot \u2013 fantastic\u2019! \u00a0\u2018Get out of Here and Go on Home\u2019 was another number with a great beat and we had a few dancers appreciating it too.\u00a0 Naturally they played <strong>Ken Colyer\u2019s<\/strong> big hit from 1956, namely \u2018All the Girls Go Crazy about the Way I Walk\u2019, marvellous! \u00a0They followed on with lovely numbers called \u2018Under the Bamboo Tree\u2019, \u2018I\u2019m With You Where You Are\u2019 and \u2018On a Coconut Island\u2019.\u00a0 I managed to film their last number, \u2018I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream\u2019) and if the band don\u2019t object, I will try to load it on this website.\u00a0 It is good enough for you to enjoy musically, although the film is still too dark to see.\u00a0\u00a0 (Update &#8211; Video can be found on\u00a0 Youtube as follows: http:\/\/youtu.be\/GrVCB5cWxek )<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What an evening, I just loved it all.<\/p>\n<p>Diane and Keith<\/p>\n<h6>\u2018All the Girls Go Crazy about the Way I Walk\u2019 \u2013 Kid Ory (?)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018Get Out of Here and Go on Home\u2019 \u2013 associated with Buddy Bolden (circa 1900)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018I\u2019m With You Where You Are\u2019 \u2013 I shall return to update<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream\u2019 \u2013 Howard Johnson, Billy Moll &amp; Robert King (1927)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018On a Coconut Island\u2019 \u2013 Robert Alexander Anderson (1936)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018Under the Bamboo Tree\u2019 \u2013 (m) J.
