Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To advertise the evening, I mentioned this band has always excited everyone and certainly lures everyone onto the dance floor.\u00a0 However, a few of our dancers were absent, due to holidays etc., (their mum\u2019s letters were obtained, but they forgot to bring them last week!).\u00a0 Thus, we had less dancers to help with our atmosphere.\u00a0 The band had a hard job playing without that atmosphere, but after a while, they relaxed and by the later part of the evening, we &#8216;got going&#8217;.\u00a0 My first number to mention was not their first, but Rob told us a super bit of information.\u00a0 The tune was <em>\u2018Buddy Bolden\u2019s Blues\u2019<\/em>, fabulously played.\u00a0 The info was about a little known show in New York about Buddy Bolden.\u00a0 He had played trombone in the accompanying orchestra.\u00a0 What a marvellous addition to his C.V.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3465\" style=\"width: 420px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mardi-Gras-13may2016_2345.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3465\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3465\" class=\" wp-image-3465\" src=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mardi-Gras-13may2016_2345-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Mardi Gras JazzBand's front line - John Ellmer (tenor sax), Leigh Henson (trumpe)t and Rob Pearce (trombone) at Farnborough Jazz Club (Kent) on 13th May 2016. Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the evenings \u00a0last session, Leigh sang <em>\u2018Doctor Jazz\u2019<\/em>, which had John not only playing clarinet, but also cymbals and bar, great fun.\u00a0 As if three ticks show how good the number was played, I put five against the next one, because they were all absolutely fabulous with <em>\u2018Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans\u2019, <\/em>plus another brilliant voice \u2013 John this time.\u00a0 Then Rob was able to show his talent with <em>\u2018Ory\u2019s Creole Trombone\u2019<\/em>, an excellent performance and (I think) a coda better than Kid Ory\u2019s &#8211; ha (up and down the scales spectacularly \u2013 I cannot explain it better than that).\u00a0 I thought he couldn\u2019t get as good as that, but I was wrong.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3467\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mardi-Gras-13may2016_2351.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3467\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3467\" class=\" wp-image-3467\" src=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mardi-Gras-13may2016_2351-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Marc Easener (dont you just love the sousaphone) with Mardi Gras JazzBand at Farnborough Jazz Club (Kent) on 13th May 2016. Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Next, Rob and Marc played some brilliant harmonizing between them on trombone and sousaphone as an intro to <em>\u2018Lou-i-Easy-An-I-A\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 A great favourite, sung by John and a real \u2018hot\u2019 number played superbly by the \u2018engine boys\u2019, Marc, Paul and John (S) . \u00a0Then Rob called a friend, Barry Vegas, up to sing.\u00a0 He was lovely, singing some of my favourite numbers, <em>\u2018It Had To Be You\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018A Foggy Day In London Town\u2019<\/em>, which blended into \u2018<em>You\u2019re Nobody, Till Somebody Loves You\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Plenty of dancing (including Keith asking me to dance!
