{"id":32,"date":"2013-09-13T06:02:39","date_gmt":"2013-09-13T06:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=32"},"modified":"2016-03-27T13:14:37","modified_gmt":"2016-03-27T13:14:37","slug":"sarah-spencers-transatlantic-jazz-band-on-friday-13th-september-2013-about-george-tidimans-all-stars-on-friday-6th-september-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=32","title":{"rendered":"George Tidiman\u2019s All Stars, 6\/09\/2013."},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u2018GEORGE TIDIMAN&#8217;S ALL STARS\u2019<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> was set to entertain us last <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Friday, 6<sup>th<\/sup> September 2013 <\/b>here at<b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> Farnborough Jazz Club. \u00a0<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">However, you may remember the M25 was suddenly closed, so we were worried as they fare from Essex (one from Oxford)!\u00a0 We arrived early to set up anyway.\u00a0 First to arrive was <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">JOHN SIRETT<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0(double bass), so with Keith on spoons, plus he and I could sing duets, we thought we would cope <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">IF<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> we had an audience!\u00a0\u00a0 Then <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">BILL FINCH<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0(drums) arrived &#8211; ah, Keith wouldn\u2019t need to play spoons.\u00a0 The next half hour, we had the band\u2019s engine as <strong>\u2018SOUTHEND BOB\u2019 ALLBUT<\/strong> (banjo\/vocals) turned up.\u00a0 He had travelled 120miles round trip anticlockwise on the \u2018A\u2019 roads, well done Bob.\u00a0 So now the audience would be saved from Keith and my vocals.\u00a0 Soon <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">DENNY ILETT<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0(trumpet) arrived also after a horrendous journey, now we had a <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">QUARTET<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">! For the first hour, Denny held it together with some superb trumpet playing. \u00a0Considering the situation, we had a very good turnout too.\u00a0 However, our band leader, <\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">GEORGE TIDIMAN<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0(trombone\/vocals), had the sound equipment, so Bob\u2019s singing was \u2018acoustic\u2019 too!\u00a0 George eventually turned up to receive an enormous cheer.\u00a0 Having had an even worse journey, being on the bridge and shunted back through the Blackwell Tunnel, but he stepped up to play straight away.\u00a0 Denny, playing a joke on him, said they were about to play \u2018Ory\u2019s Creole Trombone\u2019.\u00a0 What a number!\u00a0 George being so dry, was not quite his excellent self \u2013 lip not quite ready, but that all added to the fun of the evening.\u00a0 Unfortunately <strong>ROGER MYERSCOUGH<\/strong> also had a dreadful time trying to reach us, being stuck as there had been an accident too, was eventually redirected and after a few hours, was forced to return home.\u00a0 Clarinettist Mick Collins and banjoist Brian Lawrence were both in the audience and had a couple of sit-ins (well done you two).\u00a0 George, as usual, told some of his jokes, I don\u2019t think he has ever repeated any here yet.\u00a0 The band were fabulous, all performing some fantastic jazz solos.\u00a0 Denny played with just his mouthpiece, so clever\u2013 sorry, didn\u2019t write number down.\u00a0 They played \u2018Coney Island Washboard He Will Play\u2019, with the usual audience participation. The next number I noted was \u2018Do You Know What It means to Miss New Orleans\u2019 to which Denny gave a fantastic intro to.\u00a0 They then dedicated the next number to the M25!\u00a0 It was \u2018Route 66\u2019!
