GEORGE \u2018KID\u2019 TIDIMAN\u2019S ALL STARS<\/strong><\/span> returned on Friday, 1st<\/span><\/sup> April 2016<\/strong><\/span> at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/strong><\/span>. <\/strong>What a brilliant evening we had.\u00a0 GEORGE (our \u2018Kid\u2019)<\/strong><\/span> had that brilliant trumpeter, DENNY ILETT<\/span><\/b> with him.\u00a0 Did you see the write-up in Just Jazz Magazine (April 2016 issue – on sale here)? Also completing a top-class front line, he also had that superb clarinettist, TIM HUSKISSON<\/strong><\/span>, what a trio!\u00a0 He also had his usual\u00a0and great \u2018engine\u2019, namely\u00a0fabulous bass singer and banjoist \u2018SOUTHEND BOB\u2019 ALLBUT<\/strong><\/span>, super double bassist JOHN SIRETT<\/strong><\/span> and great drummer BILL FINCH<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 <\/strong>Last week I told you that you probably needed to get rid of those pounds (weight) gained from Easter eggs and what better way, but to bring your dancing shoes and dance those inches away.\u00a0 Some of you couldn\u2019t get out of the chair could you \u2013 too heavy aye?\u00a0 Those who came had a wonderful evening and you just have to know me to know I don\u2019t tell fibs, or exaggerate!<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a little insight of the beauty we enjoyed.\u00a0 \u2018Southend Bob\u2019 sang the first number \u2018You Always Hurt The One You Love\u2019<\/em>, with an echo from the rest of the band of \u2018at all, at all, at all\u2019, great fun.\u00a0 George sung the next number (sporting sea captain\u2019s hats) \u2018Down by the Sheltering Palms\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Absolutely fabulous and then an equally marvellous number was a tune called \u2018San\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 They played \u2018Kid\u2019 Ory\u2019s version and I gave it three ticks and wrote that everyone performed solos fantastically!\u00a0 George mentioned it was in a \u2018Zeigfeld Follies\u2019 Broadway Show back in the 1920\u2019s.<\/p>\n

I do have to mention the next one, \u2018Hiawatha Rag\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 It is such a wonderful tune, made famous by Chris Barber.\u00a0 George, what a band – you were all brilliant, lovely playing by everyone.\u00a0 Oh, we did our line dance to the following number (sung by Bob) \u2018Move Your Body Over\u2019<\/em> and yes we did move our bodies over – ha.\u00a0 I know, I was aching so much afterwards.\u00a0 Next choice to mention was sung by \u2018Southend Bob\u2019 and the number was \u2018My Little Bimbo Down on Bamboo Island\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 George also played \u2018swanee whistle\u2019 and of course he is so gifted at playing it too.\u00a0 George mentioning dear Bill Brunskill and the Lord Napier Pub, where he played for years.\u00a0 [I have found and also acquired some old photos recently, some of Bill, so soon, I shall be starting up a special \u2018page\u2019 for old photos of the jazz world (please email any you might wish to be displayed).]\u00a0 Their next tune was \u2018Ace In the Hole\u2019<\/em> again sung by Bob and with audience participation in all the right places.\u00a0 Again such fun.<\/p>\n

I requested their next one, because the last time they played it here, it was breathe-taking, the number was \u2018Stardust\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Denny did it again, with a wonderful intro and they all joined in with such sensitive playing.\u00a0 Gorgeous \u2026 and then the next number!\u00a0 What a one to go out on \u2013 awesome \u2013 it was \u2018South Rampart Street Parade\u2019<\/em>, with brilliant solos by everyone.\u00a0 Keith said it was the very first record he ever bought.<\/p>\n

Before I close, I wish to say how very sad to learn of the passing of\u00a0the fabulous Ronnie Corbett, one of our great British\u00a0comedians of all times, whom I had the great pleasure of a brief meeting.\u00a0 I told him that he made me laugh so very much, it gave me a pain at the base of my head.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure he must have wondered what I meant \u2013 ha!<\/p>\n
