{"id":3043,"date":"2016-03-29T14:52:46","date_gmt":"2016-03-29T14:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=3043"},"modified":"2016-04-01T13:52:26","modified_gmt":"2016-04-01T13:52:26","slug":"pedigree-jazzband-chris-walkers-tribute-to-trad-25th-march-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=3043","title":{"rendered":"Pedigree Jazzband &#8211; Chris Walker\u2019s \u2018 A Salute to Trad Jazz\u2019, Easter Friday 25th  March 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pedigreejazzband.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Pedigree-Jazz-Band-4.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-250\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-250 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/pedigreejazzband.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Pedigree-Jazz-Band-4.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 478px) 100vw, 478px\" alt=\"Pedigree Jazz Band Personnel in front of Marston's van\" width=\"256\" height=\"374\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last <span style=\"color: #e81717;\"><strong>Friday, 25<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup> March 2016<\/strong><\/span> was Good Friday and we had <span style=\"color: #ffa200;\"><strong>CHRIS WALKER\u2019s \u2018A Salute to Trad Jazz\u2019<\/strong><\/span> with <span style=\"color: #ffa200;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ffa200;\">PEDIGREE<\/span> JAZZBAND<\/strong><\/span> to make it good.\u00a0 We were the last event of theirs on this tour to the South East.\u00a0 It is surely nice to know they still wish to include <span style=\"color: #e81717;\"><strong>Farnborough Jazz Club (Kent)<\/strong><\/span> on these tours.\u00a0 Leader, <span style=\"color: #ffa200;\"><strong>CHRIS<\/strong><\/span> (clarinettist) has a slightly different line-up from the 2015 gang. This time, it was <span style=\"color: #ffa200;\"><strong>GRAHAM TREVARTON<\/strong><\/span> on trumpet, cornet, vocals, <span style=\"color: #ffa200;\"><strong>TONY MANN<\/strong><\/span> on trombone, <span style=\"color: #ffa200;\"><strong>KEN AMES<\/strong><\/span> on double bass, (new man) <b><span style=\"color: #ffa200;\">JOHN NODDINGS<\/span><\/b> on banjo &amp; guitar and <span style=\"color: #ffa200;\"><strong>COLIN LARN<\/strong><\/span> on drums.\u00a0 It was nice to welcome John to Farnborough), in fact to see them all again, to what was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.\u00a0 A great big thanks must go out to their Sponsors, The Marsdon\u2019s Brewery, for again sending us a pack of their Pedigree Beer, for our raffle, very thoughtful.\u00a0 \u00a0Chris makes these tributes interesting by giving little bits of obscure info\u2019 about the tunes they play.\u00a0 Their first number was <em>\u2018Bourbon Street\u2019<\/em> and I recall the front line boys singing together, wonderfully too.\u00a0 I am not always able to hear everything said, being \u2018on the door\u2019, but I did hear Chris say the next tune, <em>\u2018Livery Stable Blues\u2019<\/em>, was possibly the first recording (by The Original Dixieland Jass Band) to sell a million copies, establishing jazz as popular music.\u00a0 Now I recall we did a line-dance next, well two of us did \u2013 well it was a very fast number and but Jackie and I enjoyed being tested &#8211; ha. \u00a0Sorry, I missed what it was called.\u00a0 Chris was featured next and he dedicated his number to Monty Sunshine, which, of course, was <em>\u2018Petite Fleur\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Chris did a beautiful job too.\u00a0 [Keith and I saw Monty at Fort Halstead (just up the road to us), some 25 or so, years ago, when a friend of ours (Dick) arranged for him to guest with a band there, does anyone remember the band?].\u00a0 Monty died November 2010.\u00a0 Obviously being Easter, they had to play <em>\u2018Easter Parade\u2019<\/em>, a song (&amp; film) I just loved and sang (as a little girl), harmonising with my sister, June.\u00a0 <em>\u2018Sukiyaki\u2019<\/em> came next and a dedication to Kenny Ball, what a wonderful number and delightfully played by Graham too.\u00a0 Tony was featured next, with that lovely tune made famous by Nat King Cole, <em>\u2018Autumn Leaves\u2019<\/em> and yes, he was superb.\u00a0 I think we were all quietly singing it.\u00a0 Another two numbers were dedicated to Kenny Ball and gave Graham a chance to show again what he could do.\u00a0 The first number was <em>\u2018I Love You, Samantha\u2019<\/em> and what a lovely job he did\u00a0 The next number has to be possibly their best number of the evening \u2013 the next morning, Keith and I still recalled how amazingly they played it.\u00a0 The number was <em>\u2018Midnight In Mosco\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Kenny died in March 2013 and it seems like yesterday.\u00a0 Their dedication to Acker Bilk was <em>\u2018Summer Set\u2019<\/em>, played so lovely.\u00a0 Chris said he had the wonderful memory of visiting Acker in his home, just two weeks before he died in November 2014 (again that seems like yesterday).\u00a0 They finished the evening with <em>\u2018The World is Waiting for the Sunshine\u2019.<\/em> \u00a0Oh Chris \u2013 great clarinet solo \u2013 well just wonderful solo\u2019s played by all of you and a fantastic moment (or ten) of Ken playing his drums, what a mind-blowing solo by him.\u00a0 Thanks Chris and all of you, for a marvellous tribute show.\u00a0 Play on\u2026\u2026\u2026..\u00a0 It is a shame a great many of our regulars missed the evening, I\u2019m sure being Easter and family commitments.\u00a0 So sorry, unfortunately no photos, as Mike was away too.\u00a0 At least we have their own photo, to show who they are.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #e81717;\"><b>Your hosts for an evening of \u2018live\u2019 jazz,<\/b><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><b><span style=\"color: #e81717;\">Diane and Keith<\/span><\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h6><em>\u2018Autumn Leaves\u2019 \u2013 Joseph Kosma, (l) Jaques Prav\u00e9rt (1945)<\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em>\u2018Bourbon Street Parade\u2019 \u2013 Paul Barbarin (c. 1953)<\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em>\u2018Easter Parade\u2019 \u2013 Irving Berlin (1933) he originally composed it in 1917 as \u2018Smile and Show Your Dimple\u2019<\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em>\u2018Livery Stable Blues\u2019 \u2013 \u00a9 Ray Lopez &amp;
