MARDI GRAS JAZZBAND<\/strong><\/span>!\u00a0 This was the band who had the tough job of following on from our two special Friday celebrations.\u00a0 Well, I said they would certainly be able to fill that role and I told you that should you not believe me, then you must turn up and see\/hear for yourselves.\u00a0 That was Friday, 21st<\/sup> August 2015<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 You all knew it was here at our Farnborough Jazz Club<\/strong> (Kent),<\/strong><\/span> because you did turn up.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>The band’s leader, trombonist ROB PEARCE<\/strong><\/span>, was joined as usual, by LEIGH HENSON <\/strong><\/span>on trumpet &vocals, JOHN ELLMER <\/strong><\/span>on reeds (John played drums here last week), TIM HUSKISSON<\/strong><\/span> on piano, BRIAN BELL <\/strong><\/span>on drums and\u00a0DAVE SILK <\/strong><\/span>on double bass &tuba. \u00a0I reminded you of the last couple of times they played for us, how you didn\u2019t want them to end, so they were certainly back again by popular demand.\u00a0 How do I tell you just how great they were, well you really should be here on nights like this.<\/p>\n

Ok, here goes \u2026 the first number was sung by Rob and was \u2018If I had You\u2019<\/em>, with John giving a touch of \u2018007\u2019 flavour to it \u2013 smashing.\u00a0 Leigh sang \u2018I\u2019ve Gotta Right To Sing the Blues\u2019<\/em> and yes \u2013 he\u2019s got a great voice too.\u00a0 <\/em>My next starter for ten \u2018Don\u2019t Get Around Much Anymore\u2019 <\/em>was wonderful.\u00a0 John played tenor sax and how they all excelled.<\/p>\n

The next number I wish to comment on was that Duke Ellington number \u2018It Don\u2019t Mean a Thing (If You Aint Got that Swing)\u2019<\/em>, was sung by Leigh. \u00a0\u00a0Oh, it was just brilliant.\u00a0 I had written \u2018great trumpet, great bass and great drums\u2019 \u2013 well, they were all fabulous, but I\u2019m getting so repetitive – sorry, can\u2019t help it! \u00a0Then we come to a Louis number, \u2018Swing that Music\u2019<\/em>, oh boy, oh boy, great stuff.\u00a0 We performed our line dance to my next choice \u2018Some Of These Days\u2019<\/em>, a lovely samba.\u00a0 Then snakes alive, Keith actually asked me to dance and he was fabulous too \u2013 ha.\u00a0 The dance? To \u2018Panama Rag\u2019<\/em>, wonderful.\u00a0 My last mention must be \u2018Frim Fram Sauce\u2019 <\/em>of Nat King Cole fame.\u00a0 I don\u2019t recall it having been played here before and just loved it (but then I am a Nat King Cole fan, big time).<\/p>\n
