BARRY PALSER\u2019S SUPER SIX<\/strong><\/span> – what a band aye?\u00a0 Yes, they did thrill us, as I predicted, here at Farnborough Jazz Club<\/strong>, Kent<\/strong><\/span> on Friday, 12th<\/span><\/sup> February 2016<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 BARRY<\/b><\/span> (trombone &vocals) had asked those wonderfully talented musicians to join him, namely ALLAN<\/span><\/b> \u2018LORD ARSENAL\u2019 BRADLEY<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/b><\/strong> (trumpet &vocals), JOHN CROCKER<\/strong><\/span> (clarinet, tenor sax &vocals), TONY PITT<\/b><\/span> <\/strong>(banjo), ALAN MORGAN<\/strong><\/span> (double bass) and JOHN TYSON<\/strong><\/span> (drums).<\/p>\n

Barry began the show by singing \u2018All Of Me\u2019<\/em> and if you don\u2019t know how good he is, then it means you need to come and see his next show here on 15th July 2016!\u00a0 \u2018Bei Mir Bist Du Schon\u2019<\/em> a brilliant number, with everyone taking solos superbly (John\u00a0playing tenor sax).<\/p>\n

Then Barry sang the next one, \u2018I Want A Little Girl To Call My Own\u2019<\/em>. \u2018Lord Arsenal\u2019s bit of humour shined, when he interjected with a bit of \u2018Porgy & Bess\u2019<\/em> \u2013 wonderful.\u00a0 The following tune was \u2018Blue, Turning Grey\u2019<\/em>, with some lovely double bass from Alan (M).\u00a0 My notes said John\u2019s clarinet playing was nice and strong, mellow too! \u00a0Now how about \u2018China Town\u2019<\/em>, John laughed at our line-dancing to this number, so does that mean we\u2019re ready for the Palladium John? \u2013 he he.\u00a0\u00a0Barry sang it, with some great solos from everyone, especially the engine boys, John (T),\u00a0Tony and\u00a0Alan (M).<\/p>\n

Then I do want to mention \u2018Riverboat Shuffle\u2019<\/em> being composed by Hoagy, fabulous \u2013 no notes, I know I was dancing!\u00a0 They also played \u2018The Clouds Will Soon Go By\u2019<\/em>, which was sung by \u2018Lord Arsenal\u2019 – another fabulous voice.\u00a0 Here\u2019s just a little \u2018tit-bit\u2019 of info for you. \u00a0One of the composers, Harry Woods was born without fingers on his left hand, but his mother encouraged him to play piano \u2013 brilliant aye!<\/p>\n

John, on clarinet, played a beautiful intro to \u2018Old Rugged Cross\u2019<\/em> and then followed on with a feature song \u2018S\u2019Wonderful\u2019<\/em> on tenor sax, to which the audience screamed their appreciation.\u00a0 Keith yelled out \u201cdon\u2019t scream too much, they\u2019ll want paying more\u201d.\u00a0 How about \u2018Dr Jazz\u2019<\/em>?\u00a0 What a fabulous effort by everyone, Barry on trombone, John (C) on clarinet, \u2018Lord Charlton, oh I mean Arsenal\u2019 on trumpet, Tony on banjo, Alan (M) on double bass and John (T) on drums, well they ALL<\/strong> need a mention, they ALL<\/strong> make up \u2018the magnificent six\u2019, Oh, I mean \u2018Super Six\u2019.\u00a0 You can tell I love them, can\u2019t you!\u00a0 It IS WHAT MAKES \u2018LIVE\u2019 JAZZ WORTH IT.<\/strong><\/p>\n
