\u201cHere we are at the FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/span> <\/strong>again, at the end of the first month of 2016 already!\u00a0 Friday, 29th<\/span> January 2016<\/strong> <\/span>to be precise.\u00a0 Weather holding its own thank goodness (apart from a couple of days of bitterly cold raw ones last week)\u201d.\u00a0 That was how I advertised we were to have BOB DWYER\u2019S BIX & PIECES<\/span> <\/strong>back.\u00a0 It was good to hear MAX EMMONS<\/strong> was well again and on trumpet\u00a0& harmonica\u00a0(even though Andy Woon was super \u2013 thanks to him for filling in during previous gigs).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> BERNIE HOLDEN<\/strong> <\/span>was on clarinet & alto sax, with JOHN BAYNE<\/strong> <\/span>on double bass & bass sax, HUGH CROZIER<\/span> <\/strong>on piano & vocals, DAVE PRICE<\/span> <\/strong>on banjo & guitar and GRAHAM COLLICOTE<\/strong><\/span> was be back again on drums (likewise thanks to John Elmer for his filling in, prior).\u00a0\u00a0 Of course we had BOB DWYER <\/span><\/strong>on trombone. \u00a0This band is one of our club\u2019s favourite.\u00a0 Bob always does his best to please us and\u00a0our crowd and here are some of the tunes they chose to perform.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s see, well Bernie played clarinet with \u2018Buddy\u2019s Habits\u2019<\/em>, (I jotted down \u2018Dave on banjo and John on double bass\u2019 \u2013 must have been great).\u00a0 Next to mention is Max, who sang \u2018Shimmy Like My Sister Kate\u2019<\/em> and everyone excelling.\u00a0 Then a lovely tango with a great solo from Dave on banjo and the song – \u2018Isle of Capri\u2019.<\/p>\n

Hugh featured next with some boogie woogie.\u00a0 He is a brilliant pianist, who comes up with different numbers every time and this time, it was a ‘Pine Top’ Smith number, \u2018Jump Steady Blues\u2019. \u00a0He is so talented.\u00a0 Now Keith doesn\u2019t dance as much as he did years ago, but I can usually get him up with this song, \u2018Change Partners and Dance With Me\u2019, it is so lovely (just thought, perhaps it\u2019s because he wants to change his partner, ha. \u00a0No \u2013 never!).<\/p>\n

Moving on, once again, I just had to ask John to play \u2018Elephant Stomp\u2019. We had some new people in the audience and he is absolutely brilliant playing \u2018big bertha\u2019 (my name for bass sax) and as usual, he received huge applause, of course.<\/p>\n

\u2018Folsam Prison Blues (I Hear The Train a Comin)\u2019<\/em> has to have a mention, with Max on harmonica and singing (plus Graham on drums).\u00a0 Everybody just loves this, he is brilliant and puts so much effort into it \u2013 wowie \u2013 fantastic.\u00a0 Then to follow on with a \u2018gentle one\u2019 and allow everyone to catch their breathe, is a must!<\/p>\n

But then, Bob is so thoughtful and always plays (and sings romantically) our dear friend, Lesley Baguley\u2019s number, \u2018Nice to Know You Care\u2019.\u00a0 It is a very romantic one to dance to, so plenty of takers on the dance floor.\u00a0 My last number to mention (although not their last) is \u2018Puttin\u2019 on the Ritz\u2019 \u2013 yes, our line-dance and sung brilliantly by Hugh.\u00a0 I daren\u2019t mention any more.\u00a0 But all this surely will tempt you to come and enjoy yourselves here on a Friday.<\/p>\n
