First, let us wish you all a happy New Year.\u00a0 The GOLDEN EAGLE JAZZ BAND<\/strong><\/span> had started our New Year off with some great traditional jazz here at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ<\/strong> CLUB<\/strong><\/span> on Friday, 8th<\/span><\/sup> January 2016<\/strong><\/span>.<\/strong>\u00a0 The band, leader, KEVIN SCOTT<\/strong><\/span>, who plays tenor banjo & vocals, had\u00a0with him\u00a0MIKE SCROXTON<\/strong><\/span> on trumpet, ALAN CRESSWELL<\/strong><\/span> on clarinet, ROY STOKES<\/strong><\/span> on trombone & vocals, MIKE BROAD<\/strong><\/span> on double bass and PETE JACKMAN<\/strong><\/span> on drums.<\/p>\n

I suggested that with all the festive season\u2019s eating you surely had tucked away, you would most likely be in need of dancing off all those pounds, being the best way to exercise.\u00a0 Plus after all those repeat TV programs, you must have been in great need of cheering up, so\u00a0to come and enjoy the music.\u00a0 Of course some of you were away, but thanks to a nucleus of punters, others turned up.\u00a0 I know I always mention about this band, being full of fun, but it\u2019s so true.\u00a0 All bands arrive long before everyone, to prepare and it is a great treat for me, listening to all the banter that goes on.\u00a0 The jokes, fun and laughter between this particular band was a wonderful way for me to start the New Year, leaving me with tears of laughter in my eyes and I knew they were going to be on good form for our audience and they certainly were.\u00a0 They began with their first number \u2018Exactly Like You\u2019<\/em>, followed with \u2018Shine\u2019<\/em>. Both lovely numbers and \u2018<\/em>Algiers Stomp<\/em>\u2019 had us up\u00a0dancing our line-dance, which all us participants enjoy.\u00a0 \u00a0Mike played a brilliant bit of trumpet, when they played \u2018Postman\u2019s Lament\u2019<\/em> (I think it was sung by Kevin).<\/p>\n

Kevin also sang \u2018I\u2019ll See You In My Dreams\u2019<\/em>, singing it beautifully.\u00a0 \u2018Lord, Lord, Lord, You Sure Been Good to Me<\/em>\u2019 was then sung by Roy \u2013 amazing how so many musicians are fabulous singers, you\u2019d think they were just proficient\u00a0playing their musical instruments only, but not so.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Alan was featured next with \u2018Wild Cat Blues\u2019, (backed by both Mike (B) and Pete), what an applause he got too.\u00a0 \u2018Sweet Sue\u2019<\/em> was another number played with super brilliance by all of them, as with \u2018Walking With The King\u2019, <\/em>which was sung by Roy.\u00a0 What a great job he does too and quite a good favourite with all the jazzers.\u00a0 Oh, <\/em>you must read my write-up back on 11th September 2013, about the next number \u2018Collegiate\u2019<\/em>, such a story I managed to dig up.\u00a0\u00a0 They played it brilliantly and finished the evening off with such smiles from both musicians and audience alike.\u00a0 Looking forward to having them back on 17th June next.<\/p>\n
