{"id":260,"date":"2013-12-16T20:51:19","date_gmt":"2013-12-16T20:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=260"},"modified":"2016-02-17T17:07:42","modified_gmt":"2016-02-17T17:07:42","slug":"chez-chestermans-band-of-brothers-13122013-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=260","title":{"rendered":"Chez Chesterman\u2019s Band Of Brothers, 13\/12\/2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>CHEZ CHESTERMAN\u2019S BAND OF BROTHERS<\/b> at the <b>Farnborough Jazz Club, Kent<\/b> on <b>Friday, 13<sup>th<\/sup> November 2013<\/b> were wonderful.\u00a0 The dance floor was packed for most of the evening.\u00a0 I said last week \u201cooh, what a fabulous line-up\u201d.\u00a0 They were leader and trumpeter <b>CHEZ<\/b>, with <b>JOHN CROCKER <\/b>on clarinet &amp; sax,<b> GEOFF COLE <\/b>on trombone, <b>ROY JAMES<\/b> on banjo<b>, ANDY LAWRENCE<\/b> on double bass and<b> BILL FINCH<\/b> on drums.\u00a0\u00a0 There was tons of dancing and fun (and Keith, having said last week \u201cand drinking &#8211; his is a pint\u201d did have some of you oblige him, cheeky, isn\u2019t he!)\u00a0 The evening began with that great number called \u2018Should I Reveal\u2019 (recorded in 1931 by Mitja Nikisch Tanz Orchester), which brought on the dancers immediately. \u00a0Chez sung the next song \u2018Down by the Riverside\u2019, accompanied by many of us (my cousin-in-law, Bill and I were certainly harmonising together \u2013 he belongs to a \u2018Barber-Shop\u2019 choir), plus again there was plenty of dancing.\u00a0 Chez reminisced about the next number called \u2018Baby Doll\u2019, which was from the first X-rated film he had seen (of the same name). \u00a0He was too young and so he remembers borrowing his mum\u2019s eyebrow pencil, drew a line over his lip and managed to get in (I\u2019m sure it didn\u2019t fool anyone)!\u00a0 He recalls something about nightwear???\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what he is talking about.\u00a0 Our Len called out \u2018Beautiful Dreamer\u2019 ha!\u00a0 Again, dance floor full.\u00a0 By the way Chez, you can buy the film from Amazon, staring Carroll Baker, although probably quite tame now!\u00a0 Another number they played was \u2018My Blue Heaven\u2019 sung so well by Geoff and you\u2019ve guessed it, the dancers were out again. The next number \u20182:19 Blues\u2019 (also known as \u2018Mamie\u2019s Blues) was recorded by Jelly Roll Morton in 1937.\u00a0 Jelly had said it was among the very first blues number he had ever heard (1902).\u00a0 Chez sang it for us, plus he played a muted trumpet, beautiful.\u00a0 Now the next number was Kid Ory\u2019s \u2018Savoy Blues\u2019 a great number he produced in 1937 and of course Geoff gave it great credit.\u00a0 Next to mention was \u2018Exactly Like You\u2019.\u00a0 This number got us all up to do our line-dance to.\u00a0 It was probably too fast, but certainly a lot of fun (I hope all our audience appreciate our fun too)!!!!\u00a0 Now the next number was a corker.\u00a0 It was called \u2018Fisherman\u2019s Blues\u2019 and certainly not a blues.\u00a0 Lovely to dance to.\u00a0 I think the last number I must mention, was I think their last number too.\u00a0 \u2018Shimmy Sha Wabble\u2019.\u00a0 Oh I can tell you, my feet were aching after that dance and I was (as is usual) definitely \u2018done for\u2019 the next day as well.\u00a0 I have to say this band is brilliant <b>and<\/b> fun too.<\/p>\n<p>Keep Smiling.<\/p>\n<p>Diane &amp; Keith<\/p>\n<h6>\u2018Baby Doll\u2019 \u2013 Kenyon Hopkins (1956)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018Down By the Riverside\u2019 \u2013 Gospel song first published 1918<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018Exactly Like You\u2019 \u2013 (m) Jimmy McHugh, (l) Dorothy Fields (1930)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018Fisherman\u2019s Blues\u2019 \u2013 \u2018Champion Jack\u2019 Dupree (1945)<\/h6>\n<h6>\u2018My Blue Heaven\u2019 \u2013 (m) Walter Donaldson, (l) George A.
