{"id":2516,"date":"2015-11-25T21:09:35","date_gmt":"2015-11-25T21:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=2516"},"modified":"2015-12-04T14:11:53","modified_gmt":"2015-12-04T14:11:53","slug":"bob-dwyers-bix-pieces-27th-november-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=2516","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Bob Dwyer\u2019s Bix &#038; Pieces\u2019, 27th November 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Friday, 27<sup>th<\/sup> November 2015<\/strong><\/span>, we had <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>\u2018BOB DWYER\u2019S BIX &amp; PIECES\u2019<\/strong> <\/span>at <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Farnborough Jazz Club<\/strong><\/span>, Kent.\u00a0 Unfortunately our lovely trumpeter, <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>MAX EMMONS<\/strong> <\/span>was taken ill and had to pull out at the last minute (that afternoon).\u00a0 However, <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>BOB<\/strong><\/span> (trombonist &amp; vocalist) managed to find a replacement and wowie, what a replacement.\u00a0 We had such a treat, it was the highly popular trumpeter, <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>ENRICO TOMASSO<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 The rest of the line-up were <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>BERNIE HOLDEN<\/strong> <\/span>on clarinet &amp; alto sax, <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>JOHN BAYNE<\/strong> <\/span>on double bass &amp; bass sax, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">HUGH CROZIER<\/span> <\/strong>on piano &amp; vocals, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">DAVE PRICE<\/span> <\/strong>on banjo &amp; guitar and <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>GRAHAM COLLICOTT<\/strong> <\/span>on drums.\u00a0 Here are my notes about tunes played.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2537\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Enrico-Tomasso-7-years-old-seen-here-playing-for-Louis-Armstrong..jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2537\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2537\" src=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Enrico-Tomasso-7-years-old-seen-here-playing-for-Louis-Armstrong..jpg\" alt=\"Enrico Tomasso (7years old) seen here playing for Louis Armstrong.\" width=\"240\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2537\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Enrico Tomasso (7years old) seen here playing for Louis Armstrong<\/span>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I start off with Louis Armstrong\u2019s <em>\u2018Apex Blues\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Louis is Enrico\u2019s idol and when aged just seven, he played for Louis himself. \u00a0So as you can imagine, Enrico played some great trumpet.\u00a0 Their next number was <em>\u2018Dinah\u2019<\/em> and was sung by Enrico in a good jazz style.\u00a0 Then Bob gave his usual singing performance, showing such feeling, to <em>\u2018No Regrets\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Next came Hugh, who was, as usual, great playing piano and sang \u2018Little Coquette\u2019 \u2013 another great voice.\u00a0 He comes up with fabulous tunes to surprises us and I don\u2019t think he has sung this one here before.\u00a0 It took a bit of searching for the writers cos I got the name of the song wrong! (However, I ferreted it out, Hugh &#8211; ha).\u00a0 The next one was a favourite of Keith\u2019s, namely \u2018Cornet Chop Suey\u2019.\u00a0 Yes, written by Louis &#8211; fab-u-lous.\u00a0\u00a0 Then came \u2018West End Blues\u2019 and as you can imagine, Enrico played that super intro\u2019 and with everyone joining it, it almost brought tears to your eyes.\u00a0 Enrico also sang scat vocals \u2013 to Bernie, whilst he played his clarinet solo \u2013 another bit of fun.\u00a0 They completed the evening with \u2018Dippermouth Blues\u2019 and is the number you get to hear solos from everyone, so let me tell you about the \u2018engine\u2019.\u00a0 First of all, Dave, playing guitar, well it was his first appearance at the club too.\u00a0 He was wonderful (he teaches guitar), who fitted in superbly and helped drive it all along, also with Graham (his first time with this band), such a great solid swinging drummer and what about lovely John, who played double bass fantastically \u2013 so powerful.\u00a0 This is the number where the audience get to shout out \u2018Oh Play That Thing\u2019. Bless him, Bob tried to lead us all in with shouting it, which actually put us off \u2013 we do always know when and where to yell it, Bob.\u00a0 No prompting is needed, trust me, a great audience participation we all pride ourselves with -ha. \u00a0Well done Bob, what another super evening. \u00a0Just one pointer, yes, we performed our \u2018Charleston\u2019 style line-dance \u2013 twice, but with two songs not mentioned. I haven\u2019t given too many tunes out this time, as they are back in a couple of weeks on 18<sup>th<\/sup> December 2015, for our Christmas party.\u00a0 Please try to pre-book, thank you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Diane and Keith<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">P.S. I emailed to Bob to ask if he had mentioned Enrico appearing on TV with PRO and he responded: \u00a0Yes! \u00a0A few weeks ago, browsing through numerous TV channels I discovered a documentary entitled &#8220;The Pasadena Roof Orchestra 40th year celebration&#8221; and good it was too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rico was one of the featured guest musicians.
