The MARDI GRAS JAZZBAND<\/strong><\/span> returned with their first class presentation to Farnborough Jazz Club<\/strong><\/span> on Friday, 20th<\/sup> November 2015<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>Trombonist ROB PEARCE<\/strong><\/span> (leader) was joined by LEIGH HENSON <\/strong><\/span>on trumpet &vocals, with JOHN ELLMER <\/strong><\/span>on reeds, JOHN STUART<\/strong><\/span> on banjo,\u00a0MARC EASENER <\/strong><\/span>on bass and BRIAN BELL <\/strong><\/span>on drums.\u00a0 They really love playing together, showing such flair.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I was right about needing your dancing shoes, wasn\u2019t I?<\/p>\n

Anyway, here\u2019s a little bit of how the evening went.\u00a0 Leigh sang \u2018You\u2019re Driving Me Crazy\u2019<\/em>, a great one that encouraged everyone on the dance floor.\u00a0 Then we had some Lindy Hoppers on the dance floor (I\u2019m not sure of their names \u2013 will update later) and again Leigh sang \u2018It Don\u2019t Mean a Thing\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 The next number, I actually wrote \u2018fabulous sultry trumpet\u2019 from Leigh to \u2018Tin Roof Blues\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 We danced our line-dance to \u2018Perdido\u2019<\/em>, all great playing.\u00a0 Then Leigh sang \u2018Louisiana Fairytale,\u2019<\/em> wonderful clarinet.\u00a0 Seems like it was Leighs night, but oh no, everyone played beautifully.\u00a0 Then John sang \u2018Lulu\u2019s Back In Farnborough\u2019<\/em> \u2013 he meant \u2018Town\u2019 <\/em>of course- ha\u2019.\u00a0 Then Rob mentioned there was to be a memorial for Alan Tewson? And played \u2018Just A Closer Walk With Thee\u2019<\/em>, played with great feeling.\u00a0 <\/em>Then at this point, Rob called to a friend to join them and sing a song.\u00a0 His name was Barry Vegas and what a good singer!\u00a0 He sang \u2018Route 66\u2019<\/em>, always a favourite.\u00a0 They finished up with \u2018Darktown Strutters Ball\u2019<\/em>, a cracking one to end with.\u00a0 Everyone was up on the floor dancing.\u00a0 Plus fabulous solos from everyone in the band and what a Ball!<\/p>\n

Our photographer Mike (and Ann) were away on a much needed cruise.\u00a0 However, Peter Marr took\u00a0the photo of the band, plus\u00a0I asked Liz to take\u00a0this photo of John\u2019s line-up of saxes and clarinets. I thought it showed his amazing talent (he is just the same with\u00a0the line-up of his percussion instruments \u2013 when playing drums here).<\/p>\n

This certainly was ‘live’ music.<\/p>\n
