Hey, it was\u00a0the GOLDEN EAGLE JAZZ BAND<\/strong><\/span> who\u00a0turned up to play on Friday, 30<\/strong>th<\/span><\/sup><\/strong> October 2015 <\/strong><\/span>at FARNBOROUG<\/span>H JAZZ CLUB<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 Band leader KEVIN SCOTT<\/strong><\/span> (tenor banjo) had brought with him MIKE SCROXTON<\/strong><\/span> on trumpet, ALAN CRESSWELL<\/span><\/b> on clarinet, ROY STOKES<\/strong><\/span> on trombone & vocals, MIKE BROAD<\/span><\/b> on double bass and PETE JACKMAN<\/strong><\/span> on drums.\u00a0 Before I begin telling you about all the fun making of this evening, I must stop for a while and tell you, the band played their second tune, \u2018In The Sweet Bye and Bye\u2019<\/span><\/em>, especially for a lovely trombonist.\u00a0 It was such a shock to hear that on 17th October 2015, Russell Bennett had sadly died.\u00a0 He was an especially talented musician, as is his family, whom we all have such sympathy and feeling for \u2013 including his very personal friends.\u00a0 In his terribly short life, Russell gave so much enjoyment to so many, with his talent and tremendous sense of humour.\u00a0 Russell (aged just 43yrs) was snatched from this world, but grabbed into the next place we go to (I\u2019m sure with much glee) to join that huge band of all ages in the sky.\u00a0 \u2018You won\u2019t need an audition Russell, you left your \u2018stamp; here for all to see\u2019. \u00a0\u00a0I know he would love me to follow on with what we got up to tonight\u2013 he was so full of fun.\u00a0 Hey Russell, I think Kevin chose \u2018In The Sweet Bye and Bye\u2019<\/em> <\/span>because could the lyricist perhaps have been a distant relative?<\/p>\n

Last week, when telling you of this week, I said we\u2019ll have Trad’ jazz at its best, because it is sure to include lots of smiling faces on people having fun.\u00a0 It was just that, with all the fun of Halloween fancy dress.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure the \u2018Golden\u2019 boys won\u2019t mind me putting us girls\u2019 pictures here first – you better not, we might put a hex on you \u2013 ha.<\/p>\n

This is me (Diane) Sorry I have spoilt the scene, but I did have to tell them who’s boss. Well, we did have some beautiful Witches at our fancy dress Halloween Party and I couldn’t let them get too big for their boots! Party was here at Farnborough Jazz Club on Friday 30th October 2015. Here’s a couple more beautiful Witches we had in our Coven, who are the Witches from Gillingham. Actually, it is Phil and Sandra in fancy dress enjoying the fun. No wonder Golden Eagle Jazz Band didn’t mind entertaining us at Farnborough Jazz Club (Kent) for our Halloween Party on 30th October 2015.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

To continue, I think these \u2018Golden\u2019 boys decided they had better keep the smiles on our faces, so they played extra nice, beginning with \u2018Bourbon Street Parade\u2019<\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0 Had Kevin played it to parade us up and down to perhaps even tempt us to \u2018fly now\u2019?\u00a0 We liked it – ha.\u00a0 As for \u2018It\u2019s A Sin To Tell A Lie\u2019<\/em><\/span>, would we ever, I mean.\u00a0 Their next tune was beautifully sung by Kevin, on behalf of Keith (who is bald), but for me (who is a bottle-fed brunette \u2013 well a young witch cannot be silver really, can she! What are you all laughing for?).\u00a0 The tune was \u2018Silver Threads Among The Gold\u2019<\/em> <\/span>and joking apart, what a lovely song.\u00a0 Alan featured next and being so soft hearted, he played the next one for our cats, called \u2018Wild Cat Blues\u2019<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 The boys couldn\u2019t get them off their laps, purring so much \u2013 the cats I mean.\u00a0 Mike (S) sang to us next and being under our spell, he sang to us \u2018There\u2019s Yes, Yes In Your Eyes\u2019<\/span><\/em>,<\/span> don\u2019t worry Mike, you\u2019ll feel better soon \u2013 we are dreadful, aren\u2019t we?\u00a0 That\u2019s why they had to quickly sing the next one, to wrap our knuckles, or something \u2013 he he.\u00a0 The tune?\u00a0 \u2018Up Jumped The Devil\u2019<\/em>!<\/span>\u00a0 Kevin does find them, doesn\u2019t he, I don\u2019t think it has been played here before, well it wasn\u2019t needed before, was it!\u00a0 As for the next tune, did they really think we could be \u2018sweet\u2019? \u00a0\u2013 arhh. \u00a0Well, I suppose playing it helped \u2026 \u2018In The Sweet By and By\u2019<\/em> <\/span>\u2013 and the dance floor was absolutely packed.\u00a0 Then, a good 10 or 12 of us got up to enjoy our line-dance to \u2018The Sheik Of Araby\u2019<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 I suppose we thought we could lure back into the mood, well you men were all getting syrupy.\u00a0 I think our mood had slipped though, because we found ourselves singing at the top of our voices to \u2018It\u2019s A Long Way To Tipperary\u2019<\/em><\/span>, such comradery, aye?\u00a0 Being near the bewitching hour<\/span>, we forgot and joined in with the band, singing their last song, \u2018Smiles\u2019<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 What a wonderful evening and thanks to everyone for making it so much fun, especially Kevin & the boys, \u00a0for choosing such fun numbers.<\/p>\n
