Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The band was obviously suffering with shock, yet you would not have guessed by the evening\u2019s entertainment.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018Struttin\u2019 With Some Barbecue\u2019<\/em><\/span> \u2013 what a number to start the evening off with \u2013 even being a Louis Armstrong hit, Paul was marvellous on trumpeter and certainly entertained us.\u00a0 The whole band were great, as with their next tune, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018Wabash Blues\u2019<\/em><\/span>, we had the dancers out in full.\u00a0 It was such a great jaunty number and mid-tempo, so good fun.\u00a0 But the next number I will mention was the opposite, being fast number, with no dancers at all, we just listened to their brilliant playing to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018I Found A New Baby\u2019<\/em><\/span> \u2013 wow, so enjoyable, with a superb drum solo (all brilliant solos actually).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3904\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/W.C.-Handy-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3904\" class=\" wp-image-3904\" src=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/W.C.-Handy-.jpg\" alt=\"W.C. Photo by Mike Witt<\/span>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A number of years ago, Dave met up with an old friend, Ian Grant, who was the lyricist of \u2018<em>Let There Be Love\u2019 (1940)<\/em>. \u00a0He showed Dave some lyrics he\u2019d written fifty years before, called <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u2018We\u2019re Handing it to You Mr Handy, for Handing us the St. Louis Blues\u2019<\/em><\/span>, (referring to W.C. Handy, composer of<em> St. Louis Blues<\/em>.)\u00a0 Ian asked Dave if he could put some music to it. \u00a0The end result is they played it for us and AGAIN, I wished I had recorded it. It had a lovely beat and certainly packed the dance floor again. Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Paul featured next with his lovely iridescence\u00a0green trumpet and super-duper he was with <em>\u2018<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Stardust\u2019<\/span>.<\/em> It is a beautiful song and Paul plays with such feeling, so of course,\u00a0brilliant to listen to.\u00a0\u00a0We performed our \u2018Charleston style line-dance to their next tune, <em>\u2018<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">At The Jazz Band Ball\u2019<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 Certainly a fast one, so we were quite exhausted at the end, goodness how the musicians felt &#8211; ha.
