{"id":2433,"date":"2015-10-20T15:40:12","date_gmt":"2015-10-20T15:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=2433"},"modified":"2016-07-19T12:33:08","modified_gmt":"2016-07-19T12:33:08","slug":"napier-hot-shots-16-october-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/?p=2433","title":{"rendered":"Lord Napier Hot Shots, 16 October 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: medium;\"><b>LORD NAPIER HOT SHOTS<\/b><\/span><\/span> <\/span>appeared on <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #9b00d3;\"><strong>Friday 16<sup>th<\/sup> October 2015<\/strong><\/span>, here at <span style=\"color: #9b00d3;\"><strong>FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/strong><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0 They have been a hot favourite for a long time at the Lord Napier and I\u2019m sure most of us have frequented this lovely pub at one time, or another.\u00a0 Keith played (drums) there many years ago, with the Manhatton Jazz Band (\u2018standing in\u2019 for Bill Brunskill\u2019s Jazzmen, when they played abroad) \u2013 in the days of Trish and Doris (do you remember them?).\u00a0 The Lord Napier Pub has been one of London&#8217;s most favourite jazz venues since the early 1960&#8217;s.\u00a0 That certainly takes most of you back, doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2907\" style=\"width: 423px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Lord_Napier-Hotshots-at-Farnborough-Jazz-Club-16oct2015-1788.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2907\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2907\" class=\" wp-image-2907\" src=\"https:\/\/farnboroughjazz.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Lord_Napier-Hotshots-at-Farnborough-Jazz-Club-16oct2015-1788-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Lord Napier Hotshots play at Farnborough Jazz Club on 16th October 2015. Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">Then came a beautiful Fat\u2019s Waller number <em>\u2018A Porter\u2019s Love Song To A Chamber Maid\u2019<\/em> and sung by Mick, yes, ANOTHER great singer.\u00a0 Would you believe it, Lynn also has a top-notch voice, but didn\u2019t sing tonight &#8211; unless I was out of the room at the time. Their third number was <em>\u2018Is It True What They Say About Dixie\u2019<\/em>, (Tommy Dorsey had a Number 1 hit with it).\u00a0 Our Pat sang this one (I call him \u2018our Pat\u2019, because Keith and he played together in the Manhatton Jazz Band).\u00a0 He also did a little scat vocalising too! Photo by Mike Witt.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">Here\u2019s one I don\u2019t recall having been played here before &#8211; <em>\u2018Floating Down to Cotton Town\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 A great one to dance to, the way they played it \u2013 up beat.\u00a0 Now of course my next choice to tell you about is a good ol\u2019 favourite of mine \u2013 my sister and I (aged 8 &amp; 10) used to perform (harmonising it) to all the kids in the street \u2013 <strong><u>and<\/u><\/strong> they paid to see us!! Ha.\u00a0 The number is<em> \u2018For Me and My Gal\u2019<\/em>, a great Judy Garland and Gene Kelly number.\u00a0 I had noted that Mick played Big Bertha (bass sax to you) to this one.\u00a0 Our line dancers came on the floor next for \u2018<em>When Your Hair Has Turned to Silver\u2019, <\/em>obviously played a bit more up tempo than usual. What came next was a number that Red Nichols and his Five Pennies made famous in 1930 \u2013 what a fabulous tune &#8211; <em>\u2018Shim-Me-Sha-Wabble\u2019<\/em> and these guys did it proud too.\u00a0 Mick got out \u2018Big Bertha\u2019 (Bass sax) for <em>\u2018You Always Hurt the One You Love\u2019.\u00a0 <\/em>Pat sang, as only he can \u2013 romantically.\u00a0 \u00a0Sorry, I\u2019ve probably embarrassed Pat now \u2013 ha.\u00a0 I must finish on a note \u2013 the notes that make up <em>\u2018Shake That Thing\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 It was a lovely evening, which left us with a wonderfully happy feeling to go home with.\u00a0 Lord Napier, you are one lucky pub.\u00a0 Still, we have them back here on Friday 26th February 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Your hosts,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9b00d3;\"><strong>DIANE &amp; KEITH<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h6><em>\u2018A Porter\u2019s Love Song To A Chamber Maid\u2019 \u2013 (m) James P.
