‘BILL PHELAN\u2019S<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>MUSKRAT RAMBLERS\u2019 <\/span><\/strong>made a return journey to our FARNBOR<\/span>OUGH JAZZ CLUB <\/strong><\/span>on Friday, 2nd<\/span><\/sup> October 2015<\/strong><\/span>. It was exactly a year ago they were exciting us (see back to that newsletter). \u00a0\u00a0You were all having such fun and screaming for more at the end of that evening, likewise the same this time.\u00a0 Band leader, BILL PHELAN<\/strong><\/span> (trumpet & flugelhorn) had joining\u00a0him\u00a0ALAN CRESSWELL<\/strong><\/span> (clarinet), along with JOHN FINCH<\/strong><\/span> (trombone\/vocals),\u00a0 ANDY LAWRENCE<\/b><\/span> (double bass), JIM HEATH<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(banjo\/vocals) and PAUL NORMAN<\/strong><\/span> (drums).\u00a0 I said last week, all the more reason for joining us \u2013 being you called out for more last time!\u00a0 Well, our audience was a little thin on the ground, but that didn\u2019t deter this lovely band from playing their hearts out.<\/p>\n

Those who came, enjoyed every minute, because the band played many favourite tunes. \u00a0\u00a0Bix Beiderbecke\u2019s \u2018Royal Garden Blues\u2019<\/em> for one, with some great trumpet and clarinet playing from Bill and Alan.\u00a0 We performed our line-dance to Alan\u2019s fabulous clarinet notes and \u2018Hiawatha Rag\u2019<\/em> \u2013 we were exhausted afterwards, ha!\u00a0 Then we continued dancing\u00a0with the band\u2019s rendition of \u2018Magnolia\u2019s Wedding Day\u2019<\/em> \u2013 as we were still\u00a0on the dance floor.<\/p>\n

Then Alan was featured next to George Lewis\u2019 composition of \u2018St Phillips Street Breakdown\u2019<\/em> (George renamed it \u2018Burgundy Street Blues\u2019<\/em>).\u00a0 Lovely job Alan.\u00a0 Their next tune chosen was \u2018Ciribiribin\u2019<\/em>, to which I have a special warm feeling about, having written to one of the composers, Jack Lawrence.\u00a0 Bill played it beautifully.<\/p>\n

Their next tune they dedicated to me, hmmm, the number was\u00a0\u2018Dinah\u2019<\/i>, sung by Jim \u2013 thanks Jim.\u00a0\u00a0My next choice to mention is Louis\u2019 \u2018That\u2019s My Home\u2019<\/em>, such a lovely tune and I had put three ticks against it, which meant everyone excelled playing it.<\/p>\n

We were up with\u00a0a line-dance again\u00a0to the next tune, \u2018Move The Body Over\u2019<\/em>, sung by John (another great singer of the band), such a ton of fun again.\u00a0 Their last number of the evening was \u2018Buena Sera\u2019<\/em>, yes a lovely up-tempo number to ‘go out’ on.\u00a0 Thanks for entertaining us so wonderfully boys \u2013 lovely jubbly<\/p>\n

P.S.\u00a0 I wrote the following,\u00a0when I\u00a0advertise this week\u2019s gig, so still wish to include it: \u00a0\u201cYou probably will have read it was the first time last year for \u2018Strictly Come Dancing\u2019.\u00a0 Yes and here I am moaning.\u00a0 I watched once more to my horror, either the Band, or the Producers have chosen the wrong music again.\u00a0 The very first number of the competition, was for a Tango<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 what did they use for the music? Namely THE KINKS \u201cYou Really Got Me Now\u201d \u2013 not even a real tango beat<\/span> <\/strong>AND IT\u2019s NOT EVEN A POP NUMBER NOW!\u00a0 I so want to watch the programme, but I fear I shall have to give it up!\u00a0 (Oh, I know\u2026 I won\u2019t though, but see you this Friday, for some real music.<\/p>\n
