\u2018BOB DWYER\u2019S BIX & PIECES\u2019<\/b><\/span><\/span>, came on <\/span>Friday, 25th September 2015<\/span><\/span><\/b> to our <\/span>Farnborough Jazz Club<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Trombonist & vocalist, <\/span>BOB<\/span><\/span><\/b> had <\/span>MAX EMMONS<\/span><\/span><\/b> on trumpet, <\/span>JOHN LEE<\/span><\/span><\/b> on clarinet & tenor sax, \u00a0<\/span>JOHN BAYNE<\/span><\/span><\/b> on double bass & bass sax, <\/span>HUGH CROZIER<\/span><\/span> <\/b>on piano, <\/span>BURT BUTLER<\/span><\/span> <\/b>on banjo and <\/span>CHRIS MARCHANT<\/span><\/span><\/b> on drums. The evening began with a few horrors, including a huge traffic jam on the M25, so the band arrived after an horrendous journey. As one would expect, the first number was a little strained, but they soon got into stride and the whole evening\u2019s music took charge of us and we certainly danced the evening away. I first took note of \u2018Sunday\u2019<\/i>, a lovely happy tune, with a good tempo for dancing and sung by Bob. This was followed by \u2018Creole Love Song\u2019<\/i>, giving more of a slower tempo for a waltz. However, the next tune was \u2018Fidgety Feet\u2019<\/i>, very much \u2018up tempo\u2019 to which we performed our line-dance <\/span>\u2013<\/span><\/span> wowie, another exhausting choice. Then what about \u2018South\u2019<\/i>, another swinging tune – wonderful. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hugh also has a super voice \u2018Hard Hearted Hannah\u2019 <\/em>being one of his special songs he enjoys singing and did so\u00a0with much gusto.\u00a0 <\/span>Next came Max, doing his bit’ with <\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/span>Snag It<\/span>\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/i> and again, another super voice, PLUS adding\u00a0his performance on harmonica <\/span>\u2013<\/span><\/span> what a wonderful show. <\/span><\/p>\n

The next tune was brilliantly implemented by John (B) on \u2018Big Bertha\u2019 (Bass Sax). He played solo with the first verse of \u2018Blue Skies\u2019<\/i>. Oh I just love him. Then came \u2018My Little Bimbo\u2019.<\/i> Our guest player Burt sang it and of course he is quite a favourite character and known in these parts with his own band “Burt Butler\u2019s Jazz Pilgrims”. <\/span><\/p>\n

They continued on with \u2018Diggin\u2019 My Potatoes\u2019, <\/i>Max is just brilliant with this one and I think the rest of the band all joined in with harmonizing. We had another go (oh, just four of us!) at a line-dance to \u2018Puttin On the Ritz\u2019<\/i>, well it is just a perfect tune for our \u2018Charleston\u2019 effort to it. Finally, once again, Bob asked them all to play \u2018Nice To Know You Care\u2019<\/i> for Keith and me, the music being written by our dear late-friend Leslie Baguley (a big hit from the \u201840\u2019s).<\/span><\/p>\n

N.B.\u00a0 Today (23rd September 2015) is the first day of the\u00a0Autumn Equinox.\u00a0 The South Pole will see a glimpse of daylight for the first time in six months and the North Pole enters six months of dark – hmmm.\u00a0 Here in Kent, it is a beautiful morning – sunny and\u00a0hot, with not a cloud in the wonderful blue sky.\u00a0 I had been swimming early this morning.\u00a0 Stopped off at Holwood Farm, Shire Lane (near Biggin Hill) for some tea and scones.\u00a0 I sat outside\u00a0in the sun and enjoyed a lone Spitfire, with\u00a0its Black & white striped D-Day markings on its wings, obviously\u00a0enjoying himself and still around after Monday’s commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain \u00a0 How I wish I had been up there with him.\u00a0 However, I feel lucky to be alive on such a glorious day, one to remember.<\/p>\n

The Spitfires are from Biggin Hill Heritage Hanger –\u00a0see their website: Fly A Spitfire.co.uk\u00a0– you can hire a flight with them –\u00a0think of this\u00a0if you\u00a0need an idea\u00a0to give a very special present to that\u00a0someone who has everything. \u00a0I also found out\u00a0that Wednesday’s pilot was Don Sigourney <\/span>and today’s was Richard Verral, who both flew on the D-Day Commemorations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
