We were expecting another brilliant evening ahead of us again with GEORGE \u2018KID\u2019 TIDIMAN\u2019S ALL STARS\u2019<\/b><\/span> on Friday, 18th September 2015<\/b><\/span> at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/b><\/span>.\u00a0 George is so full of fun and he and his band are so talented and so we were not disappointed. \u00a0I had missed all the fun last time they were here, so I was expecting some special treatment from all of them this time (those extra kisses etc., hmmm!). \u00a0Those poor stars who had to oblige me were obviously GEORGE <\/b><\/span>(our \u2018Kid\u2019)<\/b><\/span>, plus DENNY ILETT<\/b><\/span> on trumpet, TIM HUSKISSON<\/b><\/span>on clarinet, \u2018SOUTHEND BOB\u2019 ALLBUT<\/b><\/span> on banjo, JOHN SIRETT<\/b><\/span> on double bass and BILL FINCH<\/span><\/strong> on drums.\u00a0 There was not\u00a0too many of you in the audience, but none-the-less, those of you who came, created such an atmosphere with your whooping and dancing.\u00a0 We all loved \u2018Southend Bob\u2019 singing \u2018Salty Dog Blues\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 He has such a wonderful deep velvet voice and the song being such a fun song \u2013 I love how he finds them (a bit saucy though).<\/p>\n

George (our ‘Kid’)\u00a0sang brilliantly the next number, \u2018I Want A Little Girl To Call My Own\u2019,<\/em> probably made famous mostly by Harry James.\u00a0 This was followed by \u2018Kid\u2019 Ory and Louis Armstrong\u2019s \u2018Canal Street Blues\u2019<\/em>, they certainly played their socks off to this one \u2013 all with fabulous solos.\u00a0 That lovely Latin number \u2018Spain\u2019<\/em> came next (I just love a Latin\/American beat) certainly shows great playing by the \u2018engine\u2019 boys, John, Bill and \u2018Southend Bob\u2019.<\/p>\n

George entertained us next by singing \u2018The Old Spinning Wheel\u2019<\/em> and of course we all joined in (mostly with \u2018lah lah-ing, of course) and I noted a bit of \u2018Hi Ho – Hi Ho\u2019 echoed after George (not quite sure what I meant \u2013 will have to ask him to repeat it next time they are here!).\u00a0 We had a real treat with someone in our audience \u2013 namely Jan Smith.\u00a0 [Keith used to play drums with Jan\u2019s hubby, Barney Smith (guitar) and Nobby Willett (banjo \u2013 which he played it sounding just like a mandolin)]. \u00a0Jan sang a couple of songs, one being \u2018Bill Bailey (Wont You Come Home)\u2019<\/em>, what a voice Jan has (a fantastic dancer too).<\/p>\n

Our next bit of entertainment came from Bob (singing with his rich deep voice again) another one of his brilliant choices, \u2018Alcoholic Blues\u2019<\/em> \u2013 a song written during America\u2019s prohibition time.\u00a0 George was fabulous on trombone (I\u2019m not a musician, so could have been a joke about having to match Bob\u2019s voice – but it was mentioned they played it in lowest register \u2013 Bbflat).<\/p>\n

Probably my favourite song of the evening has to be \u2018Stardust\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 Denny excelled on trumpet of course.\u00a0 He played a wonderful introduction and then they all joined in with this fabulous \u2018Hoagy Carmichael\u2019 number. \u00a0I will finish off with a mention of a lovely solo from Tim with \u2018The Girls Go Crazy About The Way I Walk\u2019<\/em>, which was sung by George \u2013 of course the girls do George! Thanks for another delightful evening.<\/p>\n
