Oh yes, it was certainly another exciting party on <\/span>FRIDAY, 14<\/span><\/span><\/b>th August<\/b><\/span><\/span> 2015<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span> at our <\/span>FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span> with <\/b><\/span>TONY PITT\u2019S ALL STARS<\/span><\/span><\/b>.\u00a0 It was Keith\u2019s second celebratory birthday \u2018do\u2019.\u00a0 Last week was a practice run (and oh boy, what a practice), his birthday was actually on the glorious 12th and\u00a0this Friday was booked\u00a0‘because he had made it’! \u00a0<\/span>TONY<\/span><\/span><\/b> (banjo), gave Keith a brilliant present by\u00a0obtaining fab stars\u00a0<\/b><\/span>DENNY ILETT<\/span><\/span><\/b> on trumpet, <\/span>GRAHAM HUGHES<\/span><\/span><\/b> on trombone, <\/b><\/span>AL NICHOLLS<\/span><\/span><\/b> on saxes, <\/b><\/span>ANDY LAWRENCE<\/span><\/span><\/b> on double bass and <\/span>JOHN ELLMER<\/span><\/span><\/b> on drums to play for him – and of course, all of us. <\/span><\/p>\n

I said it would be a humdinger of an evening and it definitely was.\u00a0 You will have to take my word for it, the evening was (just like last week), well actually, words cant\u00a0describe just how\u00a0terrific it was, although\u00a0I will try.\u00a0 Obviously, the beginning of the evening was busy for me, with so many people\u00a0arriving, wanting to join in with making\u00a0Keith’s party go with a swing.\u00a0 A few numbers had been played before my first chosen number,\u00a0\u2018Blues My Naughty Sweetie\u2019, h<\/i>owever, what a number. I had written “fabulous”, an asterisk and two ticks (to make sure I chose the number)\u00a0and had\u00a0also noted Al was brilliant on soprano sax.\u00a0 I also wrote\u00a0“drums – Denny – oh everyone”!!!!\u00a0 Then came \u2018Tishamingo Blues\u2019<\/i> (with Al using tenor). <\/span><\/p>\n

The next number was \u2018All of Me\u2019<\/i> and must mention some super trombone playing \u00a0from Graham, as well as great bass from Andy. Then Denny sang \u2018When You and I Were Young, Maggie\u2019<\/i>, quite a favourite, with plenty of dancing (I’m sure I caught a bit of him singing ‘Lucile’<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Denny was then featured with \u2018Bad Penny Blues\u2019<\/i>, to which he performed his speciality – playing just the mouth piece (good golly miss molly –\u00a0he sure is a beautiful trumpeter). \u00a0Tony was fabulous on solo banjo too.\u00a0\u00a0‘You Always Hurt The One You Love\u2019 followed and Tony added some playing on the mouth organ – clever clogs.\u00a0 Then <\/i>Graham sang \u2018Way Down Yonder In New Orleans\u2019<\/em> (with Al playing soprano sax), always brilliantly played.\u00a0 Next came Al, featured\u00a0with \u2018Lady Be Good\u2019 <\/em>Oh boy, what superb playing.\u00a0 Tony really knows how to pick ‘erm aye.<\/p>\n

Tony then had them play his favourite number, ‘Blue Turning Grey Over You’<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 I was told Tony made this fabulous banjo himself, even inlaying his name on the ‘head’ – see photo showing this\u00a0(yes Chrissie, he’s not just a pretty face).\u00a0 \u00a0So another\u00a0evening bites the dust – yes, a mind-blowingly good one too.\u00a0 We were once again so overwhelmed – so many smiling faces, of course\u00a0no-one wanting it to end.\u00a0 Keith (and I) will always remember this birthday, that’s for sure – thanks boys (from both weeks).<\/p>\n
