\u2018BOB DWYER\u2019S BIX & PIECES\u2019<\/strong> <\/span>was at the Farnborough Jazz Club<\/strong><\/span>, Kent (BR6 7BA), On Friday, 10th<\/sup> July 2015<\/strong><\/span>, BOB<\/strong><\/span> on trombone & vocals, had MAX EMMONS<\/strong> <\/span>on trumpet, BERNIE HOLDEN<\/strong> <\/span>on clarinet & alto sax, JOHN BAYNE<\/strong> <\/span>on double bass & bass sax, JOHN STUART<\/span> <\/strong>on banjo & guitar, LAURIE CHESCOE<\/strong> <\/span>on drums and guest pianist, CHRIS NEWMAN<\/strong><\/span>. Remember Chris played last time (1st<\/sup> May), fares from GOSPORT, Hampshire<\/strong><\/span>, where he is on the Committee of the Gosport Jazz Club<\/strong><\/span>. It was great to see\/hear him again. I advertised that night, by saying its good here, isn\u2019t it \u2013 we are always having brilliant Fridays, aren\u2019t we? I wasn\u2019t wrong either. We had a decent turnout and as usual, faces were beaming from ear to ear.<\/p>\n

They played one of Keith\u2019s favourite, \u2018A Hundred Years From Today\u2019<\/em>, with Bob singing every bit as good as Jack Teagarden. This was followed on with \u2018I Found a New Baby\u2019<\/em>, with some brilliant sax from Bernie, banjo from\u00a0John (S)\u00a0and fabulous bass sax (\u2018big bertha\u2019) from John (B). Max thrilled us all with his harmonica playing and singing of \u2018Diggin\u2019 My Potatoes\u2019<\/em> and we performed our line-dance to this – phew, we were all exhausted! I remember Ken Colyer\u2019s band playing the next one – \u2018Black Cat On the Fence\u2019<\/em>, a lovely choice and everyone excelled. Bob sung the next number, \u2018Kansas City Kitty\u2019<\/em>, just fabulous.<\/p>\n

But then no \u2018let down\u2019 with the next one, I put three ticks and \u2018yes, yes, yes\u2019 on my notes. Well, the number was \u2018Elephant Stomp\u2019<\/em>. Everyone just loves John playing it, we can never tire hearing him play it either. (see Newsletter 1st May 2015 for our recording of him playing on Youtube, not the best recording as just recorded (17oct2014)\u00a0on my old mobile !)<\/p>\n

This was followed with Max singing \u2018Down By the Riverside\u2019<\/em>. Of course, there was some marvellous harmonising from the audience. Bob always sings Keith and my friend\u2019s song (a big hit from the \u201840\u2019s), \u2018Nice To Know You Care\u2019<\/em>. It is a very romantic song and everyone gets up on the dance floor, even Keith dances with me \u2013 ha. I will end this write-up with Max\u2019s great performance to \u2018Rebecca, Get Your Big Legs Off of Me\u2019<\/em>. What a fabulous evening again. You just can\u2019t beat \u2018live\u2019 music, especially when you have musicians with the experience and talent of the likes of these guys.<\/p>\n
