NEW<\/span> ORLEANS Z\u2019HULUS from Belgium <\/span><\/strong>included us as part of their UK Tour.\u00a0 They appeared here at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB<\/span> <\/strong>on Friday, 22nd<\/sup> May 2015<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/strong>As you can see, this band has a wonderful International flavour.\u00a0 <\/strong>Trumpeter DAN VERCRUYSSE<\/strong> is from BELGIUM<\/strong>,<\/span><\/span> clarinettist JESPER CAPION LARSEN<\/span><\/strong> is from DENMARK<\/strong>,<\/span> trombonist PHILIPPE DE SMET<\/strong>, also fares from BELGIUM<\/strong><\/span><\/span>, pianist EMILE VAN PELT<\/strong> is from<\/span> HOLLAND<\/strong><\/span><\/span>, double bassist BRIAN TURNOCK<\/strong><\/span> is English, but\u00a0lives between U.K.<\/strong> and Belgium<\/strong>,<\/span> plus, of course you all know <\/span>drummer<\/span> EMILE MARTYN,<\/strong> who is English and<\/span>\u00a0lives between U.K.<\/strong> and<\/span><\/span><\/span> U.S.A<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

It was this band\u2019s first time with us.\u00a0 It is nice to know bands from abroad love to give us a try, so we asked you to give them a huge warm Farnborough welcome please, which you did.\u00a0 They played some super numbers and it was very hard to choose which ones to tell you about and what not to mention, but here goes \u2026.. \u2018Bogalusa Strut\u2019<\/em> was, I think, their first number and what a lovely happy easy to dance to, jaunty number, played well too.\u00a0 I made a note of \u2018Give Me Your Telephone Number\u2019<\/em>, but had made no remarks here, because I was happily dancing and oh what a fast one, phew.\u00a0 \u2018Mama Inez\u2019<\/em> was a gorgeous Latin American number \u2013 lovely jubbly. \u00a0Then just before their first break, they played the \u2018Original Dixieland One Step\u2019, always a favourite with everyone (I had put a couple of ticks as a must to mention).<\/p>\n

Next came \u2018Burgundy Street Blues\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0 What a lovely \u2018George Lewis\u2019 number and featured John brilliantly. (tit-bit – Brian recorded with George Lewis).\u00a0 Pianist, Emile P sang beautifully to \u2018On a Coconut Island\u2019<\/em> a lovely South-sea Island number.\u00a0 Then Phillip sang \u2018Show Me the Way to Go Home\u2019<\/em>, but instead of sending us home, the whole audience joined in singing, ha.<\/p>\n

We certainly were not going home, with this super band and what came next, only woke us up more, because it was \u2018Running Wild\u2019<\/em> \u2013 with Emile on drums wow \u2013 and try dancing to that!\u00a0 There was a couple of fantastic numbers between, but I had put three ticks AND<\/strong> an asterisk next to \u2018Saint Philip Street Breakdown\u2019, <\/em>featuring John (oh! He certainly is worth featuring).\u00a0 My last mention is for \u2018Our Love Is Here to Stay\u2019<\/em> and was sung by Emile VP, such a lovely number and what a band, thorough enjoyable \u2013 thanks boys.\u00a0\u00a0Their website is:<\/p>\n
