The Marvelous \u2018MARTYN BROTHERS JAZZ BAND\u2019 <\/strong>were here again at the Farnborough Jazz Club<\/strong> on Friday, 6th<\/sup> February 2015.<\/strong> This very talented group of young musicians, are co-led by brothers, Emile and Ben (sons of band leader, Barry Martyn, who now lives in New Orleans). BEN MARTYN<\/strong> (double bass &vocals) and EMILE MARTYN<\/strong> (drums) were joined by ALLEN BEECHEY<\/strong> (trumpet), JULIAN WEBSTER GREAVES <\/strong>(sax, harmonica &vocals), GEORGE SIMMONS<\/strong> (trombone), JOHN \u2018flashback radio\u2019 RUSCOE<\/strong> (guitar).<\/p>\n

I just love this band and knew they would entertain you all big time. I did say it\u2019ll be a \u2018live music wow\u2019 and I wasn\u2019t wrong. They play a super variety of music and make it very difficult for me to choose to tell you what they played!<\/p>\n

Although not their first tune, Julian was brilliant singing and playing harmonica to \u2018I Hear My Train A Comin\u2019<\/em>, with great solos from everyone, especially John on guitar. The audience just loved it.<\/p>\n

Next came Ben singing \u2018Walk Right In\u2019<\/em> and rest of front line joined in singing. I must also mention \u2018St Louis Blues\u2019<\/em>, they were all fabulous and certainly there was plenty of dancing. Young George took a turn with singing and chose \u2018I\u2019ll Be Glad When You\u2019re Dead You Rascal You\u2019<\/em>. Well done George, you were great. Then Julian continued with his feature tune, which was \u2018Hoots Mon\u2019 <\/em>and what a hoot. What can one say about Julian, he is just so special and plays sax a dream and have just one word for him \u2013 exceptional.<\/p>\n

Now to follow that with Allen\u2019s special \u2013 his own composition, \u2018Allen\u2019s Blues\u2019.<\/em> I had put an asterisk by the side of my notes for this one, which means \u2018a must\u2019 to mention, being \u2018wow\u2019 (well I did mention that word at the beginning). His trumpet was fabulous and he sang too.<\/p>\n

By the way,\u00a0Allen had travelled from New York TODAY<\/strong>, what a trooper aye?\u00a0 \u2018Hindustan\u2019<\/em> was next and again I have to put that word \u2018fabulous\u2019. Sorry to be repetitive, but it was! I just love the next one \u2018Dancing Cheek to Cheek\u2019<\/em> and then \u2018I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ice Cream\u2019<\/em> was the number we chose to do our \u2018line-dance\u2019, think there was seven or eight of us.<\/p>\n

Ben was off to New Orleans in a few days, so chose to play his own composition \u2018I\u2019ll Watch the Moon\u2019<\/em> (the moon being the same wherever you are on our planet). Our thanks to all in the band for a great bit of entertainment (they will return Easter\u2019s Good Friday, 3rd<\/sup> April 2015 \u2013 think of all those luscious Easter Eggs in the raffle \u2013 hmmm, I\u2019ll have to buy a ticket -ha).<\/p>\n
