GOLDEN EAGLE JAZZ BAND<\/strong> were back by popular demand last Friday 12th<\/sup> December 2014<\/strong> at our Farnborough Jazz Club<\/strong> The band consists of leader, KEVIN SCOTT<\/strong> on tenor banjo, with MIKE SCROXTON<\/strong> on trumpet, ALAN CRESSWELL<\/strong> on clarinet, ROY STOKES<\/strong> on trombone & vocals, MIKE BROAD<\/strong> on double bass and PETE JACKMAN<\/strong> on drums.<\/p>\n

The poor things arrived to face a stressed out \u2018Di\u2019. I had been \u2018through the mill\u2019, so to speak (and nothing to do with Christmas), so they had a bad start, but it certainly did not phase these boys at all. They all have such a wonderful sense of humour, so it wasn\u2019t long before they had me laughing. Once again, the evening was a happy one and great music ensued. \u2018Calcutta (The Ladies of)\u2019<\/em> was their starter for ten. Then \u2018Tin Roof Blues\u2019<\/em>, with each of them performing fabulous solos. Obviously, they made a lovely job with \u2018Chimes Blues\u2019<\/em> \u2013 just a super one to enjoy dancing-wise too.<\/p>\n

Mike (S) sang the next one, \u2018Barefoot Boy\u2019<\/em> (yes, another super voice). This band are a \u2018sitting\u2019 band. However, the front line all stood for finale for the next number (which as I have said before, is quite effective) and the number was \u2018Bye Bye Blues\u2019. After a small break, they returned to play a lovely Jimmy Dorsey number, \u2018June Night\u2019<\/em>. They have made a CD entitled by this name. Kevin sang the next number, \u2018Winin\u2019 Boy\u2019<\/em>, likewise \u2018Redwing\u2019<\/em> and of course he also has a great jazz voice. The next number, well I thought he called it \u2018Make Me a Parrot on the Floor\u2019<\/em>! I took ages on the internet, but couldn\u2019t find any song near it!! However, I\u2019m glad to say I suddenly thought \u201cfloor\u201d and came up with \u201cpallet\u201d and yes, up came the song \u2018Make Me A Pallet on the Floor\u2019<\/em> \u2013 ha.<\/p>\n

Certainly another unique number for us and one the dancers enjoyed. Unfortunately, there was a problem with someone with parking and I missed most of the last numbers (usually when all bands are really enjoying themselves and let rip), still can\u2019t be helped. They will be back in the New Year, so make a note of the date (20th<\/sup> February 2015).<\/p>\n
