He has led the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swingtet.co.uk\/\">Chris Walker Swingtet<\/a> for thirty years, which is still going strong. He is also a renowned radio broadcaster, and <a href=\"http:\/\/chriswalkertalks.co.uk\/\">jazz lecturer<\/a> on P&amp;O, Cunard and Saga cruise ships.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Tony Mann, Trombone<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nTony is another brass band trained multi-instrumentalist with several years former experience with local West Country bands\u00a0Equally at home playing double bass, Sousaphone or trombone, Tony is a valuable asset to any band.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Andy Chislett: Trumpet<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nA very popular,\u00a0well schooled,\u00a0musician with an astounding technique\u00a0and engaging personality. Based on the South Coast,\u00a0Andy is one of the UK\u2019s best known trumpeters \u00a0and educators having spent\u00a09 years cruising with NCL, P&amp;O and Cunard. He is also the jazz soloist for \u00a0top big bands such as The String of Pearls, John Miller, The Palm court \u00a0and the Tuxedo jazz orchestras.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">John Noddings: Banjo &amp; Guitar<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>John was a\u00a0founder member banjo player of the Coventry based Dud Clews Jazz Orchestra and played and recorded with the band, on and off, over the years.\u00a0 He has played regularly with George Huxley\u2019s Jazzmen since 1995 in both in the full band and in George\u2019s smaller groups. \u00a0He was co-organizer of the intriguing Royal Ascot Jazz Band for 25 years until 2 years ago. He also organised the Midlands based band Jazz Salon Rouge from the late 1970\u2019s until he recently moved down to Devon.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Ken Ames OR Mike Bennett: Double Bass<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>Ken Ames is a renowned double bass player and he has worked, over the years, with Ken Colyer, Bob Wallis and Monty Sunshine (to name but a few!) Originally this band\u2019s banjo player, Ken has re-joined the band on bass to allow Tony to take the trombone chair as Roger Marks replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Mike is living proof of the old saying: \u201cHave bass, will travel\u201d. His first gig was in Malawi. Subsequently, Mike has played in places as far afield as Cairo, Prague, and Vienna. He has been lucky enough to have played with numerous bands and musicians over the years including Chris Barber, Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball, George Melly, and even Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees. Masterful <i>and<\/i> modest, that\u2019s Mike\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Sy Gorelick: Drums<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>Sy Gorelick (pronounced G\u2019Relic), is an Anglo-American, taught by BBC Drummer Paul Brodie (BBC Big Band and top session musician) and has made his name playing in a plethora of styles gaining extensive experience. His career highlight was\u00a0being invited to permanently join a New Orleans band whilst visiting that city!<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"entry-title post-title\">A Salute to Trad Jazz<\/h1>\n<div class=\"post-entry\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pedigreejazzband.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/A_Salute_to_Trad_Jazz.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-243\" src=\"http:\/\/pedigreejazzband.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/A_Salute_to_Trad_Jazz.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px\" alt=\"A Salute to Trad Jazz by the Pedigree Jazzband\" width=\"255\" height=\"253\" \/><\/a>The \u201cSALUTE TO TRAD JAZZ 2016\u201d show is the brainchild of two musician friends \u2013 Chris Walker and Roger Marks \u2013 who share a fondness for the style of jazz\u00a0popularized\u00a0by the likes of Chris\u00a0Barber, Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball in the late 1950\u2019s and early 60\u2019s, a period that became known as the \u201cTrad Boom\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many of the record releases that made it into the hit parade at that time are seldom to be heard in the jazz clubs of today, perhaps because the likes of Midnight in Moscow, Green Leaves of Summer, Chimes Blues and the William Tell Overture require a certain amount of careful rehearsal to do them justice. They are, however, included in the \u201cSalute to Trad Jazz\u201d show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After three highly successful years of co-leading the band with Chris, Roger has retired from both the touring scene and the band, albeit on the best of terms, so that the show is now updated and presented entirely by Chris Walker, professionally as always, with some informative commentary, anecdotes and, of course, humour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Almost every appearance in the band\u2019s 2013\/14\/15 tours were immediately rebooked for return visits.\u00a0 The band is described by Jazz Breaks jazz holidays as \u201cthe sensational Pedigree Jazz Band\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This venture has been greatly helped by sponsorship from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marstons.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Marston\u2019s Brewery<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">See them in action\u00a0on YouTube,\u00a0Presented by Apple County<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"> Appearing at \u00a0Risley Park Jazz Club, Risley, Derby, go to:<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">\u00a0<em>www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FTMNu8aQOKs <\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Early in 2012 Roger Marks had the good fortune to play for Chris Walker\u2019s Swingtet on a couple of cruises when they had numerous opportunities to talk about their music and their particular influences and alignments.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It turned out that the \u2018trad boom\u2019 had, long ago, claimed a couple of conscripts.
