Goff <\/strong>includes in his band, <strong>Chris Barber\u2019s<\/strong> trumpeter<strong>, <\/strong><strong>PETE (ice-cream) RUDEFORTH<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>with <strong>MIKE (the voice)\u00a0HOGH<\/strong> on trombone, plus\u00a0<strong>JONATHAN (JJ himself)\u00a0VINTEN<\/strong> on piano., not forgetting <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>ROGER (the hat)\u00a0CURPHEY<\/strong> on double bass and\u00a0 <strong>MARTIN \u00a0(swinger) GUY<\/strong> on drums.\u00a0 Certainly another great line-up for you, you lucky people.<\/p>\n<p>This was our very first booking with Goff&#8217;s band and what a line-up.\u00a0 Let me explain the nicknames &#8211; and the meanings behind them.\u00a0 Well it began with Jonathan &#8211; everybody knows him as &#8216;JJ&#8217;, so I added this,\u00a0plus I know we have many of his\u00a0fans around this way, so added &#8216;himself&#8217;.\u00a0 I then added &#8216;fab&#8217; in front of Martin&#8217;s name.\u00a0 But then\u00a0I felt what with wonderful Pete and the special\u00a0mention of Chris Barber, our other lovely guests might feel left out, with the fact of them\u00a0all having played with super people.\u00a0 So I looked up &#8216;Goff&#8217; to find his name is the name for a fuel company for heating &#8211; hence &#8216;hot&#8217; (I refrained from putting &#8216;stuff&#8217;, well I am getting married and his other half might\u00a0give me a black eye!).\u00a0\u00a0Now Roger &#8230;\u00a0well he has been wearing his lovely Summer hat.\u00a0 Pete is known for singing &#8216;ice-cream&#8217; so well (hope he sings it on Friday).\u00a0 I then decided to change Martin&#8217;s to &#8216;swinger&#8217; &#8211; not that he isn&#8217;t\u00a0fabulous, but his own band is\u00a0called the swingers and &#8211;\u00a0can Martin play swinging drums!\u00a0 That left me with Mike, well we have had so many phone calls today and his voice is beautifully &#8216;English&#8217;, it has become so rare to hear a\u00a0person speak, \u00a0sounding their \u00a0&#8216;T&#8217;s,\u00a0&#8216;S&#8217;s\u00a0and &#8216;H&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I shall return to give you their history and some photos at a later date, but I think most of you already know their quality!<\/p>\n<p>Diane 6th September 2017<\/p>\n<p>to be continued&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>8th SEPTEMBER 2017 at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB, we have a special sextet, with excellent reed playing band leader, GOFF (hot)\u00a0DUBBER.
