Mardi Gras JazzBand, Friday, 27th September 2019

Hi everyone, the exciting MARDI GRAS JazzBand are back here tomorrow evening, this Friday, 27th September 2019 at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent).  Due to their enormous popularity, they have been approached for many dates, thus becoming fully booked all week and turning away many gigs.  Of course, as they are regular visitors to New Orleans, they play lots of different and exciting songs and hence their great popularity. These super guys in the band are band leader, ROB PEARCE playing trombone, LEIGH HENSON on trumpet & flugelhorn, JOHN ELLMER, with his many reed instruments, plus ROGER LEWIN, playing piano, with STEVE SMITH playing double bass and lovely drummer, PAUL BAKER. I’m sure a lot of you will be looking forward to a bit of fun and to dance the night away so get here early, grab a seat, joining us your hosts, Diane ‘n’ Keith(Ok – took me more than couple of hrs to publish these photos!  Also, sorry Rob – didn’t have one of you – think you were over side of the room to Alan – Diane)

George ‘Kid’ Tidiman’s All Stars. Friday, 20th September 2019

I just can’t believe it’s Friday already tomorrow. How time rushes on and here I am again to tell you who is on for you this week. Anyway, we have GEORGE ‘KID’ TIDIMAN’S ALL STARS back to play for us (Friday, 20th September 2019) at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB. Trombone playing band leader, GEORGE has booked to join him, PETER LEONARD playing trumpet, with TIM HUSKISSON on clarinet & sax, JOHN SIRET on double bass and ‘SOUTHEND BOB’ ALBUTT on banjo & vocals.  Bill Finch is still not feeling well enough to venture down to our little club, so George has asked Keith (my KEITH GRANT) to play drums… Once again, I feel confident you will all come charging through the doors to enjoy a pint or three, maybe have a dance or two and tap your feet all evening to their wonderful jazz rhythms. So let’s be having you. Your hosts Diane and Keith

I have uploaded some new photos to Newsletter of George’s gig, dated and taken         12th April 2019,  so please take a look, but having trouble – sorry, will AGAIN have to leave it for another time!!!!!

‘Benny Goodman Remembered’ Friday 13 Sept 2019

‘BENNY GOODMAN REMEMBERED’ returns for a 2nd appearance here at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB, Kent this Friday, 13th September 2019.  Last March was the band’s debut and as it was so successful, we have been requested to repeat the evening. TIM HUSKISSON will again play clarinet as BENNY GOODMAN, band leader, with COLIN BRAY playing vibraphone, as LIONEL HAMPTON and ALAN BERRY playing piano, as TEDDY WILSON.  Also ROGER CURPHEY will be playing double bass, as SLAM STEWART, plus KEITH GRANT playing drums, as GENE KRUPA and (singing just a few songs – from bottle-fed brunette) DIANE GRANT singing as (actual blonde) PEGGY LEE (I know – try closing your eyes) …. As I said last time, although I’m nervous, I’m so excited to be singing with these brilliant musicians. I have only sung on a few occasions at the club because you do have to pay to come in, however – sorry, you still have to pay but only £10 for these fine musicians – hmmm.  Doors will be open from 7:00pm, with music starting about 8:00pm, finishing at 11:00pm.  Come early, as last time we had a full house.  For certain, we will have a fantastic atmosphere – we always do.  We enjoy dancing, we have a Shepherd Neame bar (served by Kath and Barb). We also have plenty of off-road parking. I think Jackie, John and possibly Len will be helping me at the door to greet you. Diane & Keith

In 1942, Benny Goodman, known as ‘The King of Swing’ & his Orchestra and Peggy Lee recorded ‘Why Don’t You Do Right’. She song it in the film ‘Stage Door Canteen’ in 1943. The ong was written in 1936 by Joseph “Kansas Joe” McCoy.

GRANTIE is back this Friday, 6th September 2019 with his own band, GRANTIES DIXIE SIX here at Kent’s FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB.  Drummer, KEITH GRANT will be helping to swing this lovely Dixieland jazz band along.  He has a great guest star joining the band this week, non-other than PETE RUDEFORTH, who plays trumpet and sings with world-renown band leader, Chris Barber (I know, I’m name-dropping, but I’m allowed).  Anyway, we also have fabulous musicians, tenor sax player JOHN LEE and trombonist BOB DWYER (he sings beautifully too) and swinging away in the engine room will be TIM HUSKISSON on piano and ROGER CURPHEY on double bass, both keeping Keith company (and in line – ha).  I shall be so proud to sing a couple of songs with this fabulous host of musicians.  Try to get there by 8:00pm, so’s not to miss a thing.  Yes, it’s still only £10 to enjoy these top notch guys with us, Keith and Diane.
