‘Benny Goodman Remembered’, Friday 29 March 2019

‘Benny Goodman Remembered’ is a Farnborough Jazz Club special being held this Friday, 29th March 2019 . Tim Huskisson will play clarinet) as Benny Goodman, with Colin Bray playing vibraphone as Lionel Hampton and Jonathan Vinton playing piano as Teddy Wilson, Keith Donald will play dbass as Slam Stewart, Keith Grant will play drums as Gene Krupa and (brunette) Diane Grant singing as (blonde) Peggy Lee. Hey, you just cant miss this one, it is our special.  We play from 8:00 till 11:00pm (doors will be open from 7:00pm).  Come early as we are expecting a full house.  For certain, we will have a fantastic atmosphere, however many of you turn up.  It is a shame that our lovely Roger Curphey wont be with us as he is feeling ‘under the weather’, but we are so delighted to tell you double bass player, Keith Donald, has offered to ‘step in’ at the last moment.  It will be Keith’s first appearance here, so please don’t forget to give him a right warm Farnbronian welcome.  Keith plays dbass with John Petters’ band, so he is sure to be special too.  Oh, although I’m nervous, I’m so excited to be singing for you, with these brilliant musicians. ♫We have traditional jazz bands every Friday ♫ There is ample free off road parking (pls try to park close to the next car though). We have a licenced Shepherd Neame bar with club prices. Ian, Cath and Barb will be serving you and oh yes, we enjoy dancing here too. We certainly have a friendly atmosphere and all that for just £10 entrance. Diane & Keith are your hosts. This evening, Jackie, John and possibly Len will be on the door to greet you.

Bob Dwyer’s Bix & Pieces, Friday 15th March 2019

BOB DWYER’S BIX & PIECES will be entertaining you again tonight, Friday 15th March 2019, at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent).   BOB is a super band leader, a strong trombonist with a fab voice and that is why he has kept such a great band.  These guys are MALCOLME WALTON who will be on trumpet, with SARAH SPENCER on clarinet, alto & tenor saxes, plus HUGH CROZIER on piano & vocals, JOHN BAYNE on double bass & bass sax and of course GRAHAM COLLICOTT on drums.  They love the amazing sounds of composer & musician, Bix Beiderbecke (born 10th March 1903). It is amazing, how much he achieving before his death, aged only 28yrs. Bob’s band do a brilliant job keeping his music alive, for us to dance to. I’m looking forward to seeing them all again.  Disappointingly, I missed them on their last time here, namely Colin Dobson’s very special evening (I know Colin would have been so proud).  Come and join us again for another wonderful evening’s entertainment ….. Diane & Keith

‘BARRY PALSER’S SUPER SIX’ are back for your entertainment next Friday, being 8th March 2019, at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent).  They all managed to survive playing their hearts out for you all at our Christmas Party, so I know they are sure to hear your applause again.  Barry has almost the same guys too, namely PETE RUDEFORTH (trumpet), TIM HUSKISSON (clarinet&sax), BARRY (trombone), with ANDY LAWRENCE (double bass), JOHN TYSON (drums) and TONY PITT (banjo&guitar).  I will treat it as MY CHRISTMAS PARTY – ha (I’m bringing a little Christmas tree for my table and will be insisting on them playing ‘shingle bells’ for me too, hmm).  See you all on Friday for what’s sure to be another cracking evening of great jazz.  Please join us, your hosts, Diane and Keith (working on photos – so please take a peak later on Friday)

Mardi Gras Jazzband, 1st March 2019

We have the MARDI GRAS JAZZBAND here for you tonight, Friday 1st March 2019 at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (Kent).  The last time Mardi Gras JC were here, it was our first night of the year.  It spelt disaster as we had the first heavy snow and we were unsure if we should cancel.  But what a brilliant evening for those of you who braved the elements and turned up to listen, enjoyed a dance and had a pint or three.  Rob had been in London all day, attending a big British Lion’s rugby do, so he arrived at our club with huge intentions to give us a huge party and that he did.  He played brilliantly and his lovely band joined him in the same spirit.  So now I can tell you to turn up tonight, because they just must match that evening, hmmm.  The musicians with trombone player and band leader, ROB PEARCE, will be LEIGH HENSON on trumpet & flugelhorn, plus of course JOHN ELLMER on his many reeds. In the engine will be JOHN STEWART on banjo & guitar, PETE CLANCY on bass and PAUL BAKER on drums.  Say, if you are Welsh, what better reason but to come out for the evening – It is St. David’s Day.  Join your hosts, Diane and Keith
