The PHOENIX DIXIELAND JAZZ BAND, as Brucie (Sir Bruce Forsyth) would say, ‘you are our favourite’ at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (well one of them, ha). They and are here this Friday 23th February 2018. The musicians will be PAUL HIGGS (iridescent trumpet), CHARLES SHERWOOD (clarinet), BILL TODD (trombone/voc), ALAN CLARKE (drums), ROGER CURPHEY (double bass) and this time, pianist ALAN BERRY. Alan has played with many greats. For many years, he worked with the jazz programme ‘The Jazz Club’ on BBC Radio (now Radio 2). Be prepared to hear some fabulous jazz and I know you’ll leave with a big smile on your face.
Your hosts, Diane and Keith

I just don’t know how I am going to be at the club tonight, because I was up watching the Winter Olympics till about 4am. I haven’t been well enough to watch from the beginning of the Olympics, but recovered very quickly. I loved the figure skating, the curling and speed skiing (well all events). But have to write Farnborough Jazz Clubs congratulations to Don Parson for the men’s skeleton final and winning the first medal of the 2018 Winter Olympics for Great Britain. I will return to add……..
It is BOB DWYER’S BIX & PIECES’ first gig of the year back here at our FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB (this Friday, 16th February 2018) and we can assure you, they will thrill your ears with many bits and pieces too with their super rendition of jazz. Trombonist & vocalist BOB has again booked MALCOLME WALTON on trumpet, with SARAH SPENCER on clarinet, alto & tenor saxes, HUGH CROZIER on piano &vocals, JOHN BAYNE on double bass &bass sax (that is nearly as big as himself), DAVE PRICE on banjo &guitar and GRAHAM CAULICOTTE on drums. Yep, be prepared to have another great evening of jazz. Music certainly helps to keep you feeling young, aye!
Your hosts, the Granties
P.S. will back in with photo/s – just going to feed our stray cat! (sorry didn’t get back, will over weekend!
PPS HEATING HAS BEEN SORTED
I hope to bring this website up-to-date in due course, but meanwhile, perhaps photos will be my first ‘port of call’. Over many years, our friend, Mike Witt, has taken the trouble to take the many photos at the club for us. However, he is unable to come to the club at the moment, so meanwhile, we hope the many of you who have taken photos would kindly pass them to us please. These photos were taken by Pete Marr and we thank him very much. Hopefully, I shall return to write a few notes about the evening – again in due course. Thanks.

We have DAVE WARE’S DIXIE HOTSHOTS, but WITHOUT Dave Ware!!!! Seriously, poor ol’ Dave fell over in his garden and smashed his lip. Well it goes without saying, trumpeters do not need to damage their lips, do they! Oh well, bless him, he has replaced himself with a super trumpet player, PETER LEONARD. Peter has played here at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB a few times with other bands (see photo) and we can certainly vouch for him. Anyway, Dave is sending us his usual band, but without Norman Ball too, as he is also under par. So the band is PETER LEONARD (trumpet & vocals), JOHN LEE (saxes), JOHN FINCH (trombone), LYN SAUNDERS (banjo & vocals) ROGER CURPHEY (double bass) and TONY BLACKBURN (drums). I wont say anymore as Keith and I are being taken out by Jacque and Dave tonight to see The Syd Lawrence Orchestra at Langley Park Social Club and I need to get ready, so see you tomorrow here at Farnborough at 8:00pm. I shall return either late tonight or in the morning with possibly another photo!
YOUR HOSTS – DIANE AND KEITH
P.S. Wishing both Dave and Norman a speedy recovery
