Sussex Jazz Kings, 27th January 2017

Sussex Jazz KIngs at Farnborough JC Sept2016

SUSSEX JAZZ KINGS celebrate a belated Burn’s Night at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB THIS FRIDAY, 27th JANUARY 2017 – be there – please!  Perhaps wear something Scottish.  I was so worried when we had that thick fog.  Was that to be another cancellation?  It was so dense (15-30yds) all day yesterday (Wednesday) and was supposedly threatened to be with us for a few days. Yippee – NO, it’s gone and we can have those fabulous boys back to give us our weekly Feed of Farnborough Fun.   DAVE STRADWICK (trumpeter) tells me he has IAIN MCAULAY on trombone, BERNARD STUTT on clarinet, KEVIN SCOTT on banjo, PETER CLANCY on d.bass & sousaphone and PETE LAY on drums.  So we start at 8:00pm till 11:00pm.  All are welcome.  I certainly need my slimming exercises by way of dancing – ha!

Keep jazz ‘live’ by supporting your local jazz club.

Diane and Keith

P.S.  Sorry to have no newsletter updates (or photos) in a while – I’ll try to catch up soon, but too many personal commitments at the moment.

Lord Napier Hot Shots, 29th July 2016

Lord Napier Hotshots 29july2016

I know I shouldn’t tempt providence, but albeit cold, it looks quite promising weather-wise for Friday 20th JANUARY 2017 Certainly not the snow and ice we had last week.  We were actually mentioned on TV’s BBC news – A21 Farnborough and Biggin Hill as being the worst hit.  So I’m sure you will all be turning up in your hoards to see the ‘LORD NAPIER HOT SHOTS’ and enjoy them entertaining us here at FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUB.   Band leader MIKE JACKSON (trumpet &vocals) has with him, MIKE DUCKWORTH (trombone), PAT GLOVER (reeds &vocals), LYNN SAUNDERS (banjo & guitar), MICK SCRIVEN (double bass, bass sax & vocals), not forgetting BILL TRAXLER (drums).  Being we have had no club since last year, we need to let our hair down – such a thought aye?  Seriously, it will be so nice to be back.  Hopefully we won’t be too stiff in the knees to dance.  See you on Friday.

Your hosts, Diane & Keith

TONIGHT IS CANCELLED – SORRY, (13TH JANUARY 2017) ICE & SNOWED OUT!

With so much ‘humming and harring’, we have made a decision that due to the snow we have here in Farnborough (just as the sun came out too- ha), to regretfully cancel tonight’s jazz.  We have already received phone calls from people letting us know the weather is so bad where they are, so they will not be coming.  Although the forecast says we have sun, it is worrying as to the possible icy conditions after 11:00pm and your home-going time.  We haven’t taken this decision lightly (in fact Keith and I will probably go to a pub to celebrate my birthday, as I couldn’t do so yesterday).  However, if anything happened to any of you, our friends, I could not forgive myself.  Let’s make up for it next week – aye!   What a bloomin’ start to the new year! Diane and Keith

I bet you are desperate by now for some jazz to return to FARNBOROUGH JAZZ CLUBNo?  Oh well, BOB DWYER’S BIX & PIECES will certainly change all that.  This is the band who makes some fabulous music and I have chosen them to celebrate my birthday (no cards or pressies thanks) on Friday, 13th January 2017 Trombone player BOB, has MAX EMMONS (trumpet & harmonica), with JOHN LEE (reeds), plus HUGH CROZIER (piano &vocals), JOHN BAYNE (double bass &bass sax), DAVE PRICE (banjo &guitar) and GRAHAM CAULICOTTE (drums).  Let me remind you all, that music starts at 8:00pm and ends at 11:00pm.  Hopefully we are all over the dreaded bugs which seem to have hit almost everyone during the break.  So now we can party again with plenty of dancing and to enjoy our bar, served by Ian, Kath and Barb.

‘Live’ jazz – nothing quite like it, so come and enjoy yourselves with

NO JAZZ AT FARNBOROUGH JC ON Friday, 6th January 2017

Sorry to remind you, but our Farnborough Jazz Club will NOT BE OPEN this week – Friday, 6th January 2017 Keith and I will be taking an extra week’s break than usual, for the first time in over 30 years, to put our feet up (I should be so lucky – ha!).  I have told you before, however, I found one person, who had forgotten, so please pass on the message.  Thanks.

Our Christmas party went well and although not as packed as all our previous years, was still well attended by so many of our friends, as well as a few new people and so again was a great evening. Please, if you have any photos or films of the evening, could you kindly let us have copies?  We were entertained by Phoenix Dixieland, who were terrific.  As you know, I have so many newsletters to catch up with saying how the various evenings went, so will fill you in with this Christmas one in due course.

Keith’s painting of my Christmas card for 2016 . Nice he has me quite slim aye! Oh yes, my knobbly knees are hidden this time – ha. Diane

We hope you had a lovely Christmas and wish you all a Peaceful and Happy, Healthy & Wealthy New Year for 2017.

So many of us have been down with this dreaded flu-like cold, so I’m sure you will be welcoming this day off to recuperate and if you haven’t had it (lucky b*x!z!*r), you will be pleased not to be mingling with all of us who have.

Love to everyone,

Diane and Keith
